hey, the most legendary musicians have used drugs. but this are the musicians which died in the bathroom wearing no pants, or got completly crazy and jumped out the window...
ok, ok the rolling stones still exist, realy? no.... one of them died in a swimming pool, because of tacking drugs.
if want to make music and you want to have success: take drugs
if you want to make music and you want to have a successful life: leave them.

Superglue fella it's very nice you are smart enough not to touch drugs but let me tell you something about drugs instead of continue this going nowhere post.
There's no bad or good about drugs- it's all about the people using it.
and regarding me, thanks but don't worry i'm smoking pot too many years and i'm already live with all the so called problems which except the memory problem- i'm living happily.
I think that in today's world with all the problems out there- i prefer being stoned in my small bubble instead of become a material seeker who preaching everyone what to do or not to do
it's all about each one's life- nothing's wrong with that- leave and let me leave.
anyway i do agree for what you said about:
if u have talents to make music u will make it perfect without drugs as well with drugs
after all superglue the bottom line- it's very fun man

i mean also with only listening to music ..
if u get high and then lissen to music , can u hear stuff better ??
and if u take grass / weed , get high , can u make music better .. ??
i dont talk abt acid n stuf bcoz i dotn wanna go in tht ...
pls help me with this ...

Nice you got that clean opinion SuperGlue, but I think smoking is quite a personal thing, some ppl get paranoid, others freak out, others just realx and enjoy it.
As everything in life moderation is the word, and one must know his limits and bounderies.
I've smoked hash/pot for about 8 years, and I must say I don't think it will ever make me mad or nothing like that... 
Also, what you smoke is important...I just smoke good hash from morrocco (no soap bars...thank you) and in UK i smoke skunk sometimes, but my opinion about skunk/music making isn't the same, skunk just makes you stupid and slow....
Now, I must admit...a nice spliff of good marrocain after a nice meal has helped me plenty of times to do music 
Im not promoting it, its just the way it works with me...

i recently stopped smoking pot in the studio., it was a revelation., my biggest problem was that when i was stoned i usually got stuck on a sound., .,it was just too good to stop playing with it.,. but in the end i didnt work on the track too much.,
for me it's good for designing sounds and sometimes melodies but very bad for arranging and technical stuff., now i do the same things 5 times faster cause i do not get distracted and float off to dreamland.,

I started this topic now because fortwo month now i didn't not take anything anymore.
No acid, weed, hash, chemicals (stopped that since 2 1/2 years), cigarrets.
Ok some bottles beer  and black tea (yes coffein is a drug too).
Before that two month i had taken almost all stuff i got. Last time only weed and hash.
I smoked for about 6 years, 5 years weed. started
with 16 smoking weed, half year later daily. 5 years with out a break longer than 1 day.
With 17 i got my first trip, not on party, I was at home. It was an life changing experience.
I began going to parties so often i it was possible.
And took acid and mushrooms almost daily, only breaking the trip for 2 or 3,4 days.
One day there was a party, I got a 'Silver Butterfly' trip. That one was so potent it shoot me away really away  .
It isnt only the amount acid it is your experience too, after taking lot acid, a little bit is enough.
After trip i reduced taking drugs, only smoked weed and grass, sometimes a trip or shrooms.
I can say from myself i am a experienced drug user.
But know i dont want to smoke anymore. It is to hard/strong for me at the moment, coz of the psychedelic experience.
There are more other reasons, like damagin your body (smoking pipe is really bad, your complete lung get filled with that 'shit')
And chemicals...
... they are the real evil.
Speed, MDMA, MDA... with that stuff you get dumb.
Espacially MDMA is a "unreal", "lieing" drug
"Ohh i am so happy I love you all" and 3 hours later all the love is gone.
So everyone have to get her/his experience with drugs, but be always carefull!
And have fun (but remember psy drugs only one part is fun, one other is thinking)

Hey global,
it's a matter of opinion, anyway mine is that it's make the sound softer to hear,
for me it's a matter of fun.
Anyway the only place i can find smoking pot is ok to live with is when you making music with it.
if you are not smoking already then don't start with it even though you can have a cool experience.
in short i much more enjoy to hear music stoned then sober

For me it works really well to do an alternative mixdown while i'm in the aftermath of an acidtrip. I can do it faster and i find the result more pleasing, even the next day. |

I would not. I think it is better to try it first time at home with some good friends or in the nature (maybe that the best), and try to be alone for some while.
Feel into it. But always remeber it will end after some time, so don't fear.
And better is to eat some stuff (weed or shit, both good) to get really high. Search google for some recipe. Maybe cook a cacao, put 1 gramm stuff into it while cooking, best is real cacao.
For the trip buy some sweets and something to drink you like. Preper yourself and your enviroment. You need free time. No stress- important dates.
(I hate my plain english, i miss so many words)
And dont start taking it daily, the effect will go, you will get adicted.

i cant write when im mashed on hard drugs simply because of physical disorientation, man u cant fuckin stare for hours at a 2d screen when tripping......but i always smoke cannabis when writing.....
true, it does make you more slow and subjective, but i cant seem to get 'sucked' in to the music making process without it.
smoking gives me the intensity i need to keep going with my music, shut everything off - just you, the music and ideas.
what ever turns you on...

hehe that's exactly my problem the few times Ive tried writing music while wasted..... or I write a small loop and tweak some filter for an hour in awe and then stop.
nowadays I dont even drink a beer while writing. For music production it's best to be completely sober (at least for me)... your sense of judgement is so important....
of course music _listening_ is another story entirely..... |

i would not start smoking weed just because for the music, i promise you that the drugs wont help, if you are not already familiar with weed smoking and have some experience with it, itīs gonna take a while for you to get something useful out of it maybe, you will maybe get distracted by the effect, lose concentration and want to do something else. happens to me even, and i have smoked for some years(5). so basicly it depends on what mood you are in.
Weed affects your senses very much, you will hear music in another way, but itīs not like you are doping your self for OS, it can sound real shit after a session of weed also...
the thing is with weed, you get ultra sensitive, your mind is opening up, like a parabola antenna!
this can manifest in many forms, you can get very creative, you get lots of ideas, you focus on stuff(sometimes too much) or you can get real tired and saggy and feel like not focusing at all, it depends on how much you smoke. and how long itīs been between smoking occasions. a fresh mind will get much more stoned of course =) and the effects will be more obvious.(stronger)
Every person should do what feels right for her, if you feel like doing weed then by all means go ahead and try it, see what experience it gives you, if you want to enjoy music in another way(another mind state) then drugs is a way, but there are other ways, and like i said before you dont need drugs to make wicked music... if your hearings is correct, and you got a good sense for music then itīs all fine
i dont think one should promot drugs in any way, a person must gather info about the certain drug they are interested in, find out which Signal substances it works most on, and just read up on the scientific bit, to get a idea.
Many psytrance artist smoke weed, so did many 60-70ies artist, and many 50ies jazz artists did aswell... music and drugs goes hand in hand, itīs a spritual thing both music and drugs...
but i would not recommend to anyone that asked me if they should try a drug, i say think for your self and find out what effects you can expect. itīs a moral thing. coz we all know drugs isnt something to play with, its a fine line betweene positive and negative.
if you decide to try and want to be one the safe side, this is physically, you should do like someone suggested, bake a cake with weed, and stick to the green stuff. you never know what you get in hash, i wish i could smoke only weed...
to point out, i did not recommend you to try weed now, only told one of the healthy ways of doing it

Haha, noway, music dosent sound better or perfect on weed, i got my taste in music and weed wont change that, the only thing weed makes for me in hearing is more detaild and focused, if a sound stand out real much in a mix, and i dont like it, well on weed it can get me real irritated. probably would if i was sober aswell, but on weed im more sensitive. though sometimes you can get fooled, but then you probably got too carried away with something and left all your concentration to it and forgot about the rest.. hehe or something...
though i dont like to mix while being weeded , it wont help me, i got to be fresh and clean so i can make correct decisions. but sometimes it works to be stoned, it all depends... everything depends on something.. hehe
Sure SuperGlue you might be able to appreciate music that you otherwise wouldnt appreciate that much, because you are focusing on stuff much more. maybe a little drum beat, sounds so perfect it just makes up for the rest... hehe, or plain simple you are just in such a good mood that even bad music wont put you down =)
but you get my drift...sounds wont sound better, you will only focus more on them, and like Nik said " just you, the music and ideas."
