normally laptops are not optimal for music creation but anyways get the best specs you can afford, that's it. you also need an external usb or firewire soundcard.

I got an HP Pavilion dv6171 I installed tinyXP beast edition on it, works a charm.
The only downpart with my setup is a non too powerful USB soundcard (Lexicon Alpha made in USA), it is great for live show and handles a preety good amount on processing since it is a dual core Turion.

But if you are looking for something serious, it will more way more expensive than a desktop.
You will need a good Fireface RME and a custom Alienware.

That would be a strong laptop.

Just go and log into Alienware and customize your laptop, it shows the total cost with no shipping.

I would never change my AMD 4800+ 64X2 for a laptop.          www.myspace.com/enertopiapsy

for sure its about the alien on your laptop, its magic or not?

ok, the possibility of a 7200 rpm HD is great, for the rest it looks like a normal but expensive laptop to me.

If u have the money go for macbook pro. It will never let u down on performance and reliability. and if you really really need Windows u can install it on the mac too using apples official workaround called BootCamp.

This one.

Now, see if you can customize and have windows XP instead of vista.
Actually, you can change the hard drives as well, 7200 rpm and u have a superb quality piece of work.

2950 dollars plus shipping, is a strong laptop of alienware, but you get a machine that will be a strong mobile studio, if you can get an RME card hoocked to it.
