Hello All!

I've opened this Thread because many users here make music at Home, in the Studio. Everybody here knows a lot about the ways to work, about the main setup idea used in a Studio.

But on the other hand, making music LIVE, performing LIVE is an interesting part too, especially to goa/psy artists. So maybe some people here are interested in gathering infos together, to learn from others and to make own LIVE performances better!

there could be different ways to make a LIVE performance:

* it's possible to bounce all tracks down (bassline, kickdrum line, all the effect and melody/pad lines etc) and then mix them lively.
* or bounce a basic beat down and then lively play effect sounds. and connected to that, a sequencer to play the midi data to synths, and then tweaking them live.
* and yeah. some LIVE acts are played back completely... *grrr*

so what ways/concepts do you use?
would be interesting to hear a lot of different solutions to this!

Do you honestly believe that this is the first time someone asks this question? I can garantee you, that if you do a search on the word 'LIVE' or maybe 'perform', u will find many threads answering exactly this question you asked... Just pointing out that there is not a big need for re-posting the same threads over and over again and instead browsing for what there is now - and it's alot - alot of info.

I usually use the same method all the time, so that i can learn how to use what i've got, both in the studio and on stage. if you want you can take the same setup you got at home to the gig, if you wanna carry.......

I use a multitrack recorder, two synths, midi sync and a master keyboard.

I records the trax separatly on to the multi track (kick, bass, fx, lead, etc) and i leave out what i will play on stage, be it a midi sequence or a live abience or whatever.... if it's gonnabe played, it cant be inthe final mix of your set... duh.

since the multitrack has mute swtiches onall trax, I cann shut up any part of the song and just leave the kick and bass... more space to do some killer lfo sweeps and stuff, if you want to create impact, the live instruments must sound live I.E. use a slightly diferent reverb so that the live stuff stands out, but not too much, also adjust the volume and picth fine tune, to match the "room" you're playing in. In other words, make it sound diferent from the original track.

If the place you're playing at, demands non-stop sound, you can always use the cd players that most gig houses have and expand all the posibilities... i use the cd's so that i can load thenext tune on the multi track..

I work alone, if i were one more, then it would be diferent...

oh, btw, it must be REAL LIVE, or else.......

mmmmmm........live

i'm just gettining my setup going right now, it's starting to kick ass. i'm using two sequencers/sound modules, so far i've got ten songs on each, each with 16 tracks with pre-sequenced loops. each seq/sound goes into one side of a dj mixer, which gives me the ability to que up songs & tracks and blend it in like a dj. mute & unmute on the fly, tweak knobs, spontanius breaks, whatever. to much fun. if you want more details let me know, but be sure to check out www.livepa.org

the same as Mind Manipulation!
only that I use a laptop PC as a multitrack recorder... and a midi controler [preveously programed for the 'things' (controlers) I want to play with, in each track]

I prefer to have the tracks seperatly, 'cause I believe it's better to adjust the levels on the LIVE place, because of the difference if it is open air, in a club, the room response, its size, etc... and I think the LIVE played instruments, fit much better this way.
The disadvantege is that the sound, is not so tight, though I can compress it or maximize it on the master output channel, ...it's not the same as one track, allready mastered.

i find the best results in playing on top of the preprogrammed base with synths i never used before
more exciting as you don't know whats going to come out with still the solid basis steadying the metronomic pulse so it doesn't go out of hand
then the people let u know when it's happening or not..!            :: We are here to do it, so let's not loose time !

trance culture, I think that setup is one of the things responsible for the low paying party organizers not hiring Real live performances anymore...... I agree that 90% of the work is done in the studio... and the whole point of playing live is to stretch the other 10%....

Just my opinion...LIVE MEANS LIVE.
