First of all, I must say I am amazed.
This site is really something I don't see everyday.

as I've listened to more and more psy trance, I have come to realize that my life long dream is to create a track based on some very special samples from startrek.

I donno if that dream will come true, but anyway, I want to "play" a little bit with music (trance,etc.).
can somebody point out some useful tools I can use ?

I will give a few names of software for music creation:
- For beginers:
* Impulse tracker
* Fruity loops 3
* Buzz (another tracker)

- For advanced leavel of creation:
* Cubase VST 5
* Sound forge 5
* Logic Audio Platinum 4.7

Download and learn how to use them, it's not the
most simple thing you ever done...believe me :)

i guess u'll have to call tech support :))
kidding.
if u'r into tracking + windoz:
u better try modplug tracker, it's impulse compatible, and it works better with windows UI and supports much more cards, besides it supports VST fx. another more complex and quality tracker is Buzz [a little more complex]

I have linux installed too, if it helps.
anyway, I tried Buzz,Fast Tracker 2 and 3.
In all 3 of them, I've had a problem loading loading .wav files. In FT2 and 3 the program froze and in Buzz it outputed something about CWave:Failed.

I even tried .wav files from Microsoft Pinball, that should be compatible (real waves), but still without success.

I have Win2k and AWE64 (not for long, I hope :) ).

Any help would be great :)
And do not forget : TiMMMAH ! :)

under linux, for now....there's a few good projects: rs101, juno [ultramaster.com or .org or .net],

and a really good,stable E-DJ project called "GDAM" [look in sourceforge]

trackers: soundtracker[.xm], cheesetracker [.it very alpha]
and Brahms[or "Koobase"] which isn't stable too.

but..generally: the really new/pro audio cards are not supported. and midi/audio sequencers are not developed well. besides DSP cards market is held by Microsoft.i'm sure as soon as the companies will release cards specs - the people will develop many good things, but M$ can't allow that,
anyway.when the cards specs will be out, there will be development and products, for now - stick to mac or windoz.[your card is supported though :)]

BTW.....Fast Tracker 3 ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
what are u talking about ?

Thanks for the report B)
when I said FT3 I meant FT3 0.25 (still beta).

do you have any idea about my problem with the .wav files ?

maybe it has something to do with win2k audio drivers (can play more than one .wav at once with AWE64).

Timmy, in general - The best OS for music creation is win98 SE. If you're willing, install it. Oh, and i think you should start with fruity loop 3. I've learned so much using it.

I'm not willing to install it again, not right now anyway.
It took me alot of time to get rid of it, and it's going to be hard to install it again.
I'm sure there is a solution to my little probelm, any ideas ?

as i understood from the below site, the win2k drivers really suck, and don't work fully under win2k, they don't support dynamic wavetable manupulations

http://www.maz-sound.com/ews64.html
or official terratec site.

so if u want audio, install either win98 se or buy another card that is compatible with win2k
[listed in Win2k HCL]

Personally, I find those drivers very useful.
I guess I'll have to wait for my new computa ... :)

Thanks

win 2000 is very annoying for music

under 2000, installing my turtle beach soundcard was an absoloute pain
it took ages to get it working

it wasnt so bad under 98
the drivers dont work correspondingly on lots of things, for some very annoying reason

obviously its another ploy by microsoft to control independant thinking and creative output from the world

Thank you.
I already noticed that :)
When I'll get the new AMD 1.4 supa computa, it will be much easier :)
but, anyway, I started playing with FL3, with no results ATM.
I also have a little newbie question :
How do I decrease the bar legnth for each pattern (not the whole song) ?
