I'm also an oldboy (30 yrs) I also studied psychology and i'm currently working to get my PhD in functional MRI research (10 months left and counting the days...). Besides that i've got a kid of 7 months so i don't have lots of time for my music: grrr... At the moment i'm seriously considering switching to a job in the music/sound industry because that's what i like most (and staying in the scientific community for too long will seriously hamper your development as a person ).

I personaly make full time music. I've spendt a lot of money on equipment, so why the hell should i go to a normal job, when i have my own money machine at home ???
Beside my psytrance projects, i started to compose music for commercial bands (all kind of music: house, techno , pop, hip hop..)
In the beggining was preety hard, but now i started to make music for movies, theatre, jingles...
And i can tell you, i make good money from this..but i make also money from trance music.

In the same time , making different kinds of music, and working this every day helped me a lot. I think my musical skills are better every day, because of exerciseing.
And the best thing is : "I'M MY OWN BOSS!!!"

Btw: i also studied psychology and philosophy

It's pretty interesting to know who's who here. Let me say I like Semiotics (Pierce, Eco etc.).
If you have talent, it's great to make music and receive money at back.

Im 24.

I work fulltime taking care of old(sick) people.
Only been working for 2 years, but it has given me money to buy instruments and music related stuff..
my goal is to be able to record for other musicians and create my own music, and also preform some simple music for old people and kids...

i would love to be able to spend fulltime with music, but im not at that level of seriousity right now. i have a hard time doing the most simple tasks.. so i have to work with my self a bit more.

my idea is to stop working in the end of march and practise fulltime in playing guitar and hand-drums, percussion and maybe some flute....

i have also studied philosophy, and soon i will studie "care in case of dementia" roughly translated.

and later on i whish to studie musicproduction or audio engineering, i only took some audio engineering courses before...

I used to work full time, doing accounts receivable for the YMCA. I am taking a few months off from working to do some travelling and learn more about writing music. But after my trip is over, I'll be going back to working and probably to school for social psychology.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

eh kewl thread :)

i do landscaping in the summer (besides enjoying our forest festivals, a couple of local DJing gigs, and some week-end personal studio time ;)

since its a seasonal job i do music all winter full time...so its good balance...
im this kind of guy who's waiting before playing his own tracks till he feels confident enough that its bomb...if ever!

next year though i will start studies in university...i will miss full-time trancemaking greatly...

I'm a new civilian in Israel who just has finished 3 years of army service in a combat unit. Now I seek for a job till the summer. I plan going studing in 2007, till then Im gonna work, work on music and maybe have a trip somewhere.

Music is a hobby of mine since 2000. I started messing with it then, stopped from 2003-2006, and now I got back since my army is over.
Dunno if Im good enough to make it a full time job.

i m 19 and study biology in the university.
i dont work at all and dont want to at least for now!

i started taking music more seriously when i finished school and started buying gear and stuff!
i like it very much as a hobby, and it may turn out something else in the next years where the only thing i have is my studies!of course with lots of work!

but i d never quit university for making music because i also dunno if i m good enough to make it!

the thing about music is that making music isnt most of the career...schmoozing, gigging, more schmoozing, more gigging, pressing, chasing down business contracts, putting together press kits and one sheets, repetitively playing your own tired tracks over and over again...i guess if you really hate office work or other sorts of jobs this can seem great or even passable but if you get most of your pleasure from studio work, it would be a sort of whorish nightmare.
