So I just got myself a brand new desktop pc and an additional monitor. What I am having a hard time finding out is how I:
Setup the whole studio so I can have a switchbox that, when I press a button, my "left" monitor is secondary display on pc #1, and when I press button again (or other), then the "left" monitor becomes primary display of pc #2. What switchbox do I need for this?

what u need is a dual view KVM switch. Basically it comes with multiple monitor pair inputs and multiple keyboard mouse outputs, (on the output side to hook up to multiple pc's) one switch box and 1 real keyboard and mouse and one monitor pair output. (on the input side)
Usually with a simple button press u can choose which of the computers receive the keyboard and mouse input and output onto the pair of existing displays.
Thats if you want to switch both monitors between pcs.
If you only want to switch one monitor between pcs then u only need a vanilla 2 port KVM switch, however, you will only be able to control the pc that is "switched" to.
If you wanna control both simultaneously then ul need two mice and probably two keyboards.
What I would do is just use the dual view switch and switch between the two input pcs. |

I use 3 monitors and i have a PS/2 switch box.
My middle monitor is the primary for both pc's.
The other two are connected directly to daw pc on the extra vga card.
So, any KVM switch box, USB or PS/2(depends what you want) will do the job. One of your monitors will be the primary for both pcs and this monitor will be connected to the switch box's output. The vga outputs from the pcs will be connected to the inputs of the switch box. And the second monitor will be connected to your music pc, where you're gonna set everything regarding the two monitors.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Let me tell you, DVI KVM's are not only a bit expensive, but also a bit of a pain. If you need DVI KVM, and you don't want to spend a fortune, expect to do your homework.
PS - there are mutliple monitor KVM's, so that you could have 2 (or more) monitors attached to the KVM, & then to each machine. That way you can A/B both at the same time.
