to duck specific frequencies you can make a routing trick by colin oood ( i cant find the link in the forum). for this you need only time but no new plugins.
you need 4 channels:
1. sidechainsignal (kick?)
2. track in which you wanna duck
3. copy of track 2
4. ducked signal
signalflow:
- route track 2. to track 3. and 4.
- route track 3. also track 4.
- phase invert track 3.
- put an eq on track 3.
- cut out all frequencies you wanna hear after ducking (you should see only a bell around the unwanted freq.range)
- put an gate after the eq in track 3.
- use tack 1. as sidechainsignal to tricker the gate
now the gate opens when your kick us playing. the phase inverted signal will be subtracted from the orginal signal wich you wanna duck. the volumefader of track 3. regulate the strange of the ducking effect.
i'm not working with cubase but it can be that you have to use subgroup channels as track 3. and track4.
...sorry but i must edit this post. as i read the cubase gate fx not support sidechaining by an external signal.
but you can use the free ReaGate plugin
http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/.
the other way is to use the MidiGate fx of cubase.
