ok.....ive been burning loads of cds. I heard a rumour that when a track is compressed to mp3 it does this by taking away all the subsonic frequencies that u cant hear. So is this the case? And if so how much will it effect the track being played through a BIG quality system....? Will it still push air? |

It does this by taking all of the high frequencies. A good encoder at 128k will cut about all freqenciesw above 16k. It will hurt a little the hi-hats, but you will still get the bass. |

don't take 128kbs encoded mp3's as an example.. it's shit. i do burn some cd's from mp3's that are at 192kbs at stereo mode and it's excellent..

Its all good in theory, but the algorithm used in most of the MP3 encoders isnt perfect and does infact leave its marks on the total boundary of frequencies in the file resulting in decreased quality.
well, as a wise old(?) isralien man once said - In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is. |

Like Tzahi said, 192 kbps is near cd quality and if you really want to reach the mp3 limits, go for the 256 and 320. BTW, always use LAME. i personally use it in Cdex. |
