What do you prefer:
Hearing a sample in a track and then hearing it on a movie, or the opposite?
I don't want this thread to become a "best of" style of thread, so give reasons and explanations to your choice!

Personally, I prefer to hear the sample in a track first, and only then in the movie, because when I listen to a track and hear the sample, the sample is a part of the track. When I'm hearing it afterwards in a movie, it's like "woah! so that's where it's from!".
Personally I saw The Matrix only 2 years after it came out, so you can guess the fun it was finding all those samples in it
The best thing is when samples are taken from the most unexpected places. There is a sample in MFG & California Sunshine track taken from a science program in the Discovery channel. I also think that I heard a Shpongle sample on another science show, not sure though. My sister was watching it in the living room

Spot on!

Although as a producer obviously I love hearing it in the movie/tv/whatever first, and thinking "hell, thats a beauty, and nobody else has spotted that yet!" (half the time i'm wrong about that, of course)           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

I'd prefer to not hear anymore movie samples in music.... It's getting so old and a cliché to use movie samples - in my opinion of course. I'd rather hear some unique samples done by the artists. Movie samples are getting a bit to overused in our scene these days

hehe, does that include hearing duvdev singing?
i don't make music so i don't have the luxury of trying to find samples, if i was, then that would be fun!
but of course, what mike said is fun as hell, i love it when samples fall on you out of nowhere when you see a movie. the donside is that when you have a movie like matrix, it's sampled so much, that if you weave all the tracks with those samples together you can build the whole movie           Super-teen extraordinaire Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
Runs around in underwear Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
Rescues Washington D.C. Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
Unless something better's on TV Freakazoid! Freakazoid!

I think Duvdev sang in deeply disturbed right?
Anyways I think its cool to first hear a sample and then see it in a movie, since it reminds me of the track i heard it and blows my mind away ... for example when I was watching Vanilla Sky (an excellent movie by the way) - when kurt Russel goes " Im Real, Im ... Real, Mortality as home entertainment ... this cannot be the future ... can it" ... I almost expected the GMS track to begin. As to your point E Project- I agree there may some sort of an over kill with samples in tracks - although i like what sub6 are doing, where they take a sample - tweak it to make it sound like an instrument.

i prefer to hear the track and than see the movie.. because it comes by surprise and u get a dejavoo..

for example... i saw the movie CUBE and i had a dejavoo when that expert-in-math-girl said:
"there is no way.... it's astronimcal" something like that... (this sample is in the track adrenalin rush by xerox & psycraft)

another example when i saw the movie 7 years in tibet and suddenly brad pit said "the deep powerful presence of life"
i had such a strong dejavoo.. this sample is on BLT's clear vision!           u can find "Anything U Want" using the search...

recently i was watching a Star Trek - The next generation episode on television and there was an alien flying in a shuttle testing out some new technology. at one moment he said to the crew in the Enterprise: "I am actually flying into a star". whoa, it left me very suprised and happy
