Candyflip Records proudly presents its first chill-out compilation “Mountain High”, which was compiled by Alex_Candy (aka Alexis Gateley), who is the co-founder and label manager of Candyflip Records and member of the label’s DJ Team.

The compilation consists of 11 previously unreleased tracks produced by 10 projects – 3 from France, 2 from Sweden, 2 from the UK, 2 from Israel and 1 from Greece. The cream of some of the most talented psy chill-out European artists are featured on this unique compilation such as : Vibrasphere, Nada (Dragonfly), Solar Fields- Cell- Aes Dana (Ultimae), Jviews (solo project of Jonathan/ Violet Vision), Kick Bong (Spirit Zone) and also new names such as Indidginus, Triac & Sharon and Intocyrcle.

The music will take the listener into a journey “up the mountain”, starting mellow and soft with psy dub influences. It gradually builds up and speeds up the pace, adding tribal and ethnic influences, reaching the climax with the last track of the compilation- where the “mountain top” is reached.

The mastering of this release was carried out at the Ultimae Records Studios in France ensuring top sound quality from a label that is specialised in chill-out releases.

Short artist information :

Solar Fields (SW), aka Magnus Birgersson, who is 30 years old, is a unique artist from Göteborg, Sweden. With a past experience enriched by electronic collaborations, Magnus has built a vivid sound universe, melting diverse ambient styles into psytrance or industrial drones. After two sonic gems albums signed on Ultimae Records and some famous tracks on AP records, Spiral Trax, 3D Vision...Solar fields confirms his global vision of ambient, at times atmospheric and ecstatic, at others rythmic and groovy. Through his music Solar Fields cultivates his unique mastery of sound climates, unity stands.

Vibrasphere are Rickard Berglöf and Robert Elster from Uppsala – Sweden. In the summer of 1998, Rickard and Robert entered the studio for the first time together to produce music. They have released two albums so far, “Echo” by Spiral Trax in December 2000 and “Lime Structure” in 2002 by Digital Structures. Many of the tracks were licensed to various compilations and the down tempo track 'San Pedro' even caught the ears of British producer Talvin Singh who included it in his mix for the 'Back to Mine' series. Throughout the past two years the development and progression of the Vibrasphere sound has been released on labels like Acid Casualties, Digital Structures, Dragonfly, Plastic Park, Spiral Tax, Transient and appreciated by a worldwide audience.

Indidginus (UK) is the project of Michael Martin, who is 30 years old. Michael is a software developer and a musician in his free time. He has been producing his own material for the last two years and his current project was recently completed with the production of the album “Sine Language”, which aims in raising money for the Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery & its affiliated centre Samye Dzong. Future projects include collaboration with the well-known ISHQ project on an ambient/IDM album.

Triac is a project by Michael Reznik & Ilan Lanz from Israel (22 and 21 years old respectively) mostly known for the dance tracks that they have released. The Triac track “Anticipation”, which is included in the Mountain High compilation also features Sharon Safanov, a special collaboration combining Triac's atmospheres with the awesome lines and melodies that were mostly written by Sharon. A unique mixture of both ambient , chill and electro trance with great touching melodies .

Jonathan Dagan is a 22 years old artist from Israel and is the man behind the Jviews project. Jonathan started his musical career with the band Violet Vision and their first release was an album called “First Sign of Communication” which gained great reviews in the press and on the internet, and saw them invited to perform live in festivals worldwide. The J.Viewz project was established by Jonathan in mid 2002. and combines elements from breakbeat, trip-hop, 2 step, jazz and more, all in a chilled out vibe. The first J.Viewz track was released on a compilation called “Chillout sessions 2” by Blanco y Negro music- Spain (a Warner music label) in January 2003. This compilation also features: Sinead O’Connor, Sneaker Pimps, Mike Oldfield, Paul Oakenfold, Delirium, Massive Attack, and more. Other than working with J.viewz and Violet Vision, Jonathan works as an independent producer and composes music for the National Geographic channels Worldwide.

Kick Bong (FR) is the project of Franck Jousellin, who is 33 years old. His involvement with music started at the early age of 12 when he started playing drums and in the process he played drums and percussions with several bands and dj’s on the Parisian scène and studio. His main musical influences are : pop, funk, new wave, punk rock, acid jazz and trip hop. He has released 4 Kick Bong tracks with Spirit Zone Records on the global psychedelic trance and chill out compilations. Others Kick Bong tracks are to be released in future compilations by Candyflip Records and Clima Records, a division of Sub machine Records. Future plans include the release of the debut Kick Bong album.

Nada (UK) is a project by Russell Davies of Abakus (LSD, EtnicaNet) and Humprey Bacchus LSD producer and remixer. Nada have so far only released on Liquid Sound Design, and this is the first release outside the mother label. Abakus has a new Album coming on LSD after Christmas this year and there is a Nada album in the pipeline and production work for the duo. The Nada project is gaining recognition worldwide with many licenses from the tracks to all different territories and labels. This excursion is a little more trancey than the usual ethno musical cross.

Cell (FR) is the one of the musical facets of composer sound-engineer Alex Scheffer, who is 29 years old. Following studies at the Conservatory, Cell worked at many sonorous design works for short films and advertisings. He specialised in wave sequencing using the Korg technologies. Editor at Clavier magazine, house and contemporary music composer, Cell creates, in his spare time, small atmospheric ambient-jungle universes. He released tracks also on well known labels such as Ultimae, Naïve, Le Maquis and Missive.

Intocyrcle (GR) is the project of George Fotiadis from Thessaloniki, Greece. George is 25 years old and has been involved in making music for approximately 11 years. His early involvement in music was in alternative rock bands and experimented with different types of music while gradually moving also towards the production of chill-out music. Apart from the Intocyrcle project, he is currently also a member of the electro group Decades, which combines electronic music with experimental sounds.

Vincent Villuis, who is 29 years old, is the former member of goa chill band Asura. In his current project – Aes Dana (FR) - his music stands as a coherent fusion of deep sounds rooted in the psychedelic tradition, in a fluid down tempo morning trance. Evocative sound textures, opening as a travelling over his analogical dreams. Short tales made of samples and waves, energised by tribal beats. After the successful album “Season 5” and some tracks on different compilations (Fahrenheit Project series, Module 1 from 3D Vision...), Aes Dana continues to treat nature elements and weave kaleidoscopic hypnotic tracks with groove and spacey backgrounds. Aes Dana will release 2 albums this end of year 2003 – beginning 2004.

Enjoy !!

smiles,

Alexis

Atmospheric melodies, ethnic instruments and soft dub beats are what define this first release of chillout by Candyflip Records.

Mountain High starts with atmospheric sounds, ambience and then gradually moves to higher and higher levels until it peaks with the A.E.S Dana track - Seaweeds Corporate.

Mountain High is a CD that must be added to your collection...

mmmm. nada album`s going slowly at the moment. kinda got caught up in writing some 128bpm progressive tunes. Nada will probably be done before the summer, ready for the festivals.
