rme , nothing but rme - if u are producing on a mac , then motu.
But in the end, go for rme - better support, better converters, better software ( tools like totalyser ....)
pay a few bucks more now and u can focus on producing later , buy motu and u will run into problems more easily as my and the experience of others show....
Cheers

Using the RME Hammerfall DSP on logic 7.1
Amazing no complaints, been using the rm for abt 3 yrs now, its wicked.... heard motu is great for mac usage, (and u get dp when u buy it), but i would stick with rme given the chance to change. Value for money is xcellant.

I got the Rme fireface 800 for my pc , and experienced problems , big glitches in the sound , tryed installing the newest driver , but still wasnt to work with , I guess i was unlucky , so i had to switch and i did it for the motu 828 mk 2 ,, i have been VERy happy for this card , and have been told that the only diff ( ofcourse there are some different converters , prize appraized for rme , ) but that in reality its a matter of taste , u cant seperate them , its a matter of choice , ( havent though tried a blind test ) .

Hello Stats ,
With glitches i ment that , i.e when i was using windows mediaplayer, it took 30 secs before the track sound started and when it did , there was serious sound failure , cracks pops , hisses in the sound ... Well i was told that it maybe had something to do with the motherboard , or some software issue . Either way , i couldnt live with it ´, so i got the motu .. But i think its more of a isolated problem .. have a friend who havent had a single prob with it .

@Rishi - I had a friend who experienced the same problems ur talking abt in windows xp, the hiss, the cockup in latency settings, even the new drivers didnt make a difference... but on his laptop using the pci card as opposed to cardbus it worked fine.... he couldnt deal with it and bought a motu too!!
Still in osx the rme is amazing, i even had a friend stand on pci card and break it, the whole thing shattered, i plugged it in and it still worked!!! german technology kicks ass!! |

alright....
Is there a 64 bit driver at all for the MKII ?
Are there any tools like Meterbridge, Totalyser, Vector Audio Scope, Routing Matrix and all that?
I would say , definately that Motu sucks compared to RME...
Ok, there maybe the Timepiece Midi Stuff from Motu which is very good indeed. But if one compares the MKII to the Fireface ? C´mon - Motu loooooooooooooooooooooooooses!!!!!
This is serious - if u have the Money, buy RME and don´t waste it on the Motu MKII.
Just have a deeper look at both Websites and the Download Section, the Tests, the Awards and if u want to go for this pesky Motu after that - Geeeesh ;-)
Btw, i used the Motu MKI, i had to send it back for 3 times during two years warranty ( Power off every 10 to 15 minutes, crashing constantly while updating the driver, more more more probs - a real mess ). The third time i got my money back. I used this Money to buy the Multiface along with the Pci Card - this was the best decision i ever made so long. The Fireface can only be better and the Motu MKII has to be much worse than the MKI....
Cheers

So Fg 445 , because you had the Mk 1 u can say for sure that the Mk2 is much worse ?
Yes ur right No fancy smansy software package for 828, but still very reliable ,.
If it works with ur pc i would go for the fireface , no doubt , and if not it works consider the motu .. also motu mk 2 should be nice for lives .. has a (flexible DSP-driven 20-input/8-bus mixing and monitoring matrix that eliminates the need for an external mixer or patchbay)
peace out
