Hi to all

I have also the motu ultralite. It made my life gray when i was using it with my vista... horrible noises, picks even it turned off sometimes. After extensive reading on the net here is what i have learned.

1st: This card is a great piece if you use it with Mac.

2nd: If you don't have a Mac, DON'T use it with vista...!!!

3rd: The best OS configuration that I can give and it really functions here with me is using WinXP SP3!!! not SP1, not SP2 but SP3!

4rd: The problem IS NOT THE CARD! the problem is that this card is a firewire card, the firewire 400 with big slot, but as you can observe the PCs have the small one.. the 1394. and for some strange reason microsoft restricted the data flow through this port to firewire100... 4 or even 8 times slower that it is meant.. so how can we expect good performance? when the data just got stuck and this provokes those horrible peaks spikes noises...

So there are various solutions because really the saound that one can achieve with this piece is amazing for it class.

First of all man, enter into your IRQ settings (if you dont know how google it) and spot the IRQ for the 1394 slot. Well our friend Windows also for some strange reason assigns same IRQs for totally different stuff but this is a big problem as it provokes very bad performance for the motu... So.. if f.e. your 1394 is assigned with IRQ 17 than just disable all other things that are using the same IRQ. in my laptop it was the Lan.. in others it can be different. Also disable all those fancy visual shit that windows is stuffed lately.. they all fucks the performance. i mean even if you have winxp sp3 it should look like a win95. Thus you are freeing resources. The hardware acceleration too and something very important. You have to Disable your Onboard sound! if not it will cause problems too... and as mentioned above, you have to chek if your firewire port is TI (texas instruments)...

Using this configuration I have my motu now working great! no spikes, peaks, noises...

Still for playing live at stage I use a Mac...

Hope this can help
