Hi guys,
urgently need your help!!! My New UltraLite Mk3 is making high pitched noises sometimes when I am recording my mixes from my decks or even when paying winamp and doing nothing else. What happens is I get a sudden 1-2 seconds of highpiutched noise and the file skips then slighly. If I happenned to be recording at the time that section is missing from the recording. This can happen 2 or 3 times in a row, totally unpreditable when it will happen next.
Extremely frustrating as I paid a lot of money for supposedly good sound card and so far I've had nothing but problems, my old 1/1 Edirol UA-25 was far more reliable
If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know, I logged a query with tech support on Motu but no response so far!
Thanks guys.

Are you using any demo software? And you're totally sure that it's a problem with the interface?
Sounds strange..not sure how you contacted them, but call Motu if possible.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Are the Motu soundcards (especially this one) prone to this kind of issue ? Or are they usually fairly reliable ? |

Apparently this is a known issue with other users and MOTU offers nil support for it. Great!
There are some fixes like uninstalling Quicktime, turning off WLAN and Hardware acceleration that I am going to try, hope they will help.
Thanks anyway guys, meanwhile if anyone figures out what to do about this please le me know!
Cheers!

take it back to the shop and tell em its broke if u cant fix it.
Motu are D*cks if they are still supplying shops and consumers with faulty goods!
i will always look up hardware and software for known problems b4 i buy from now on. |

Contacted the shop, they said that they are happy to send the unit off to repair if I can replicate the problem in front of them, which is not 100% that I can because sometimes it does not squeal but other times it squeals non stop.
I wrote a complaint email to the Motu CCing the store on it saying that I don't want to pay money for a soundcard I can't use and I would like a refund. I think there is no point sending the soundcard off to the warranty anyway as there is no fix for it that Motu would care to tell us about. Let's see what happens, I will keep updating this but a word of warning to people wanting to buy this soundcard, don't!!! It has been nothing but trouble for me and a large number of other people. Check www.motunation.com forum for all the details, there are numerous posts with the same problem and no resolution and plenty of people are taking their soundcards back to where they bought them.
Cheers!

this seems like one of the known problems with motu interfaces and some pcs. I'm using my mk2 for a long time on mac and I never experienced any problem.
as far as I know, these problems just occure on pcs, and just on some setups. but I dont know tough what really does this problem, they dont occure on macs, so it could also be a problem with some hardware.

Motu are wankers, im never going to buy another motu product. Terrible support and widespread problems under windows that they do nothing to fix. Support would rather you go through the time consuming and expensive motions of you sending the unit back for 'repair' than acknowledging the fault is with shoddy drivers.
Its a real shame, because the unit itself is awesome, lots of features, sturdy, quality, good price, its just the windows drivers that are bad.
It runs like a dream for me in osx (yet not under xp via bootcamp, running on the same hardware).
Disappointed they didn't even bother to fix these issues for their new model (the mk3)
good luck

ps. save the money and buy an RME |

Did you ever get a fix to this??
I've been having the exact same problem with my Motu Traveler ever since I got it about a year and a half ago.
Should I just send it back ??? |

Ah yes, the fix was to turn down (or off if you can) Hardware Acceleration on your machine and to not use any internet browsers or chats while using your sound card.
Apparently the network adapters and firefire adapters share ports on PC machnies (as opposed to Macs where they are separate) and they tend to interfere with each other
Try that, hope this will solve your problems!!!
Also try visiting http://www.motunation.com/forum/index.php they have some good advises there too as this board is full of Motu sufferers
Peace!

I was using a pcmcia firewire card for my laptop and had this problem really irritating, then i decided to connect it directly to the 1394 port and it seems to work perfectly fine and no high pitched squeals anymore.
Also another interesting thing i found out recently on a RME website was that Xp with Sp2 or later limited the transfer rate on firewire to just 100 instead of 400 or 800, it doesnt matter, this issue wasnt there on Sp1 , however there is a good workaround for this posted on RME as well as a hotfix is available on Microsoft along with some registry tweaks. ill post them in a while !!!!

Make sure you use a firewire controller with a Texas Instruments chipset. all others are going to be a problem.
