Hi guys
I have a m-audio pci audiophile 2496. I am very happy with it but i want more ins and outs. I want a mobile soundcard to use at my studio and for live pas too.
I read that dont go for a Motu? Why? Many ppl has it....what is the diferente for motu 2408 and 828?
about m-audio...it is the cheapest of equipament...some ppl say that m-audio is not a leadership on the market...it isnt so professional brand...Any one has it?
about RME i think that is great but too expensive to buy pci card, dsp interface and a pcmcia card to laptop.
thanks

for me i would buy motu 828 mk2 it have some different configuration from other sound cards like in cubase you need to remove the file midi port filter from the c:\programas\cubase\midi port enabler\ to c:\programas\cubase home directory.
this to work midi properly. also i think motu mk2 have internal processor and i think mk1 doesnt have. anyway im not sure but for sure 828 mk2 its killer and excelent quality. just very big for live act. heheh

This is funny because I was about to post the same exact question!
I have an audiophile too , and was looking for the answer between Motu and the M-audio firewire 410.
One thing, I just met with someone who has both and told me that the Motu sucked for him because it doesnt work too well with his PC, more suited to the Mac. He is very very happy with the Firewire 410 though...
One quesiton I have...if you use only softsynths and nothing much else, then is there any advantage in these interfaces over the audiophile 2496?
Also, do these have internal processors to free up your CPU or not really??
thanks!! |

I have an M-audio 410 - and wouldn't recommend it. Sure, it's cheap and all, but I've had some headaches about it. I don't know the MOTU, so I can't say "buy it" - I am, however, going to say "steer clear" when it comes to M-audio.
Maybe it's a bad driver, maybe my environment is screwed up, but a serious degration in performance, unstable system (yes, the entire computer), noise from my built-in soundcard (on my powerbook) and other issues just isn't worth saving a few bucks for
When it works, it works... No hard feelings about the soundquality, but stil...

I can fully recommend the RME Hammerfall/Multiface setup. Pristene sound, very low latency (1 ms is not impossible; at the the last "live" set I played I ran Traktor and Korg Legacy Cell at 3ms latency with no problems at all), utterly reliable - so far! - and 8 ins and outs mean you can mix all your live kepboards right in the PC and have a stereo mix output for them, plus two stereo outputs for Traktor, plus headphone monitoring, all at the same time. Plus it has a MIDI interface built in.
It's not cheap, but in these things I think you get what you pay for,

Thanks guys! but again my question is that if there is no other external gear, only soft synths being used on a desktop PC, then is there any point in these interfaces? Do they save on CPU?? Or is a sound card like Audiophile 2496 good enough?
thanks!! |

Amygdala, are you using at pc or mac?
I read about this issue bad drivers for pc at another forum for Maudio Firewire 410. They really pissed off the new owners of it but with the drivers updated ppl told it was perfect.
anybody else?

Is the Hammerfall/M-audio etc. only useful if you have external gear??
