Artist: Motion
Title: Nevertheless
Label: Sprout
Format: 12" and Digital
Released: October 2006

Review:

Based in Cologne, Germany and run by one of the most influential progressive DJ's, D-Nox, Sprout has over the years established itself as a very noteworthy label, releasing so far 15 EP's with names like André Absolut, Air Bureau, Minilogue, Nikola Gala, Fitalic and of course D-Nox himself and his partner in crime, Beckers. The labels 15th release features the track "Nevertheless" by Motion and a remix by D-Nox & Beckers on the flipside.

A. Motion - Nevertheless [130 BPM]
The original of "Nevertheless" is made by Vincent Courcot from France with his soloproject Motion. Under the name Tetraktys Vincent has a past in the progressive psytrance/techtrance scene, and last year he started the now quite successful project Solead, with Charles from Triptych. "Nevertheless" features some of the Motion/Solead trademarks - a funky groove, phat electro-sounds and very distinct rock-influences, which give it quite organic feel. Kind of like a live studio jam-session, and the catchy vocals are pretty good as well. Solid stuff.

B. Motion - Nevertheless (D-Nox & Beckers Remix) [130 BPM]
One of the undoubtedly most talked about duos at the moment, D-Nox & Beckers, provide the remix, which some might already know from the latest Labyrinth mix-CD compiled and mixed by D-Nox and Mental-X. It starts out pretty calm and is especially easy-going for the first 2½ minutes, but overall it is generally deeper, smoother and has much more straightforward grooves compared to the quirkier original. Not the most groundbreaking remix I've heard, but it works! High quality production by the Germans once again - with massive dancefloor appeal.

Bottom line:

If progressive progressive house/electro house is your thing, then this release is definitely worth checking out. I personally have a preference for the very dancefloor-friendly D-Nox & Beckers remix, while DJ's looking for a slamming groover with a little more edge, probably will be more satisfied with the original version. Recommended.

Favourites:

A, B(!!)

Verdict:

8/10
