i had trouble with corsair's memory sticks lots of blue screen, since i replaced them to "mushkin" it works awsome i guess there was a compatibility issue between the motherboard and the corsairs cuz the sticks were fine when i checked them with memtest, but what's important is that now it works great and i recommend it or the EP43-UD3L my friend has this motherboard also with q9550 and the corsairs and it's fine at his place..good luck with this

i use windows 7 ultimate but i recommend you to use windows xp for now only becuz drivers and compatibility issues not many drivers support win7 for now and it may cause some prolbems with your sound card and other programs.use xp sp2 super stable |

What i really wanted would be a mac pro or Macbook pro (although i had to buy a new soundcard as the one i have is RME9632, which is pci) but there is no money for that...so i have to upgrade my old amd 3200 pc...
The parts i am thinking are:
Intel Core2 Quad Q9550
Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
4 x Kingston ValueRam 1GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM
Sapphire Radeon HD4650 512MB
Seagate Barracuda 7200 320GB
SONY OPTIARC AD-5200A-OB 20X DVDRW
I would keep from the old one the case, Psu (500)a couple of old sata 7200rpm, processor heatsink fan (Zalman), not much...lol
low budget but a fair workstation...for around £450...(WWW.misco.co.uk)
tell me what you think...thankx

yes i think XP is the best option for now, but iu thought the SP2 is a "no no", should just be with SP1...maybe i am wrong...Cheers!

well... my experience sais you get your self a i5 750 or an i7 920 specialy you can find cheap motherboards for a i7 920 that are great for audio ( gigabyte, foxconn and msi are the best ) i have tested all of them believe me i know first hand!
only bad with i7 920 is the high tdp ( temperatures, power consumption) but the performance is very good little less than the i7 860 but 3ple channel ram.
im super happy with my i7 920 and gigabyte x58 dq5 with 6g of high speed walton chaintech 2000mhz ram!
if you go this route choose a prolimatech megahalems or xigmatek thors hammer for cpu cooling !
dont bother on a dead socket like the 775 is now.
the best is to embrace the i7-i5 train tha will offer sata3 and usb3 inthe near future!
and go for win 7 the are rock solid for audio!

Thank you orange, after some thought, and some advice i will go with the i7 920 although amd phenom 955 looks interesting too...this new choice is more expensive than the first option (775 socket) but more "future proof"...
I7 920 cpu
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
Sapphire Radeon HD4650 512MB
Barracuda 7200 500GB Sata
LG DVDRW 22X INT SATA
another few Hd
Corsair (TR3X6G1333C9)6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory CL9
Windows 7
A few questions:
-is a 500w psu enough?
-what means in the memory ref CL9 (9-9-9-24)?
-is it the right memory?
Thanks

get some ddr3 1600mhz with cl8 timmings at least.
|
|
That is a lot more costwise, i wonder if that diference is substancial overall in a already fast pc...mind you that i don't want an airplane...
almost a third more in price...
would a 3x2gb DDR3 1333mhz 7-7-7-20 be alright?
Thankx
