i'd recommend to look outside the "psy chill" scene if you're looking for experimental ambient or down tempo music.

f.e.

social interiors: the world behind you
social interiors: traces of mercury

Ha, wow, Social Interiors. I've had Traces of Mercury for years, and haven't listened to it for years either.

You've just reminded me of it. I'll have to get it out and give it a listen again...

Thanks Outolintu!

Does chill out have to be experimental ? one of the things that led for me to be a chill out dj was that in the early days of raving in the Uk I dicovered that the chill out room was my favorite place to be the only problem was in those early years 89 - 91 quite often the music in chill out spaces would be just awful with people playing experimental electronic drones and all kinds of just annoying nonsense that were supposed to be trippy but were much to irritating to get into, you'd have these great spaces with awful music which kind of inspired me to become a dj and play some sounds with the kind of flow people were actually feeling. I don't think people want anything too off the wall as the soundtrack when they're out and chilling socially at a party or at a club.

it's all about tastes...

personally, i can't bear anymore these pseudo-ethnic-pseudo-mystic-lazy-listening-buddha-baresque chill out musics.
but this is just my perception/personal taste.
i used to love it some years ago though.
so i understand that some people like this kind of stuff.

but i know that some people don't like it...

I'm the real deal underground. I've done a couple things for labels but mostly just make tunes and post them for free on soundcloud. My style is too odd/mixed/varied/eclectic for any label that I know of to take a legitimate interest in. check out the link in my signature
