To be honest, the majority of psy-trance doesn't use chord progressions at all and general tracks plod along on the same bass note. There are of course many exceptions, but as a broad generalization it holds up fairly well.

As for "chords" proper, they are also not so common in psy outside of in pads. When they are used they generally they tend to be minor-ish, but again as most psy-artists don't have much knowledge of music theory (not nessecarily a bad thing) it tends to hit and miss.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Well I use chord progressions. Quite a lot actually. But it doesn't mean I make them in cheesy pads euro trance style (ok I am ). Just play the chord with bizarre sounds, so you keep it both psy & harmonic

wanna know about chord progression? Talk to someone from the concervatory, they have great courses and books with all information about classical harmony, pop harmony and jazz harmony (pop harmony is a simplified version of jazz harmony). All italian style ofcourse...

U have all kinds of jumps, all with they're own name and some of the jazz ones don't work in classical (at least, according to the rules, but u can use them in a classical piece if u want and u'll sound more original) and vice versa, but u can keep busy learning this shit for the best part of a year and still not know everything, I'm just starting to learn it myself...

Hello to every one .
Hey FREGLE ,the pop and jazz harmony you can put in one package with classical harmony which is it already.
sr.Claude Debussy(1862-1918) actually was creating the jazz harmony (he was classical composer).
But sorry ,here i trying to say you ,that yes it exist(jazz harmony ,just after Gershvin deside to name it with all others ) and story of Jazz is free improvisation only which i dont speak about blues(just two chords at all of the time).Good jazz man is good improvisation man and the story is finish.
---------------------------------------------------------
Try to start from Simpe theory(classical of course) and then jump to Harmony (classical too)which is next step after simple theory and after.... and after....,i think you got the picture.(and i am not trying to be here a smart ass)
---------------------------------------------------------
For more compex analise try to chek classical composers like R.Wagner and Webber they got this sound that you looking for .
---------------------------------------------------------
So ,dont get to jazz (at least for now)(thnx):)

Yes and almost forget .
Hey OpTiKoOl try to chek those progressions
Firstable chek how a TRITON is soundig(the devil of the music) (example:A and then jump to Eb)sound weird ?-yes ,its da right point for psychodelic ,play it around in chord prog to and vertically and gorizontaly (i mean as a chords or as melody with all other notes of coarse ) and try some formulas but not mine's:)
1. Am-Fmaj7-G-Em7.
2.Am-Em7-F7-Dm7.
3.Am-Em-Gmaj-Dm.
4.C-G-F-G.
5.C-Dm-F-G.
6.Am-Asus4-Am-A+2.
7.A-C-D-E(her in no7 you use just 1th and 5th notes in those chords for example A-you hold just A as a note and E as a note and not all 3 ,like A,C,E)(mostly for atmospheric sounds).
the same with this group also:8.A-E-G-D
---------------------------------------------------------
Most of the artists use a simple 1's and 6's chord progressions(for example A and F or C and A).
Or 1's and 3's (A and C) in all track .
---------------------------------------------------------
Sience all dance music its good GROOVE and i repeat ------- GOOD GROOVE --------------so you can use a one chord at all .Mostly it will be a Root of your track .
---------------------------------------------------------
And most of artists like Talamasca or Infected and many many others ,like to use a Dim chords ,thats mean take your A7 for example and play a A,C.Eb(and not E ,here yor dim5 is coming out),G.
you can dim every thing and every where ;try to play it horizontaly and verticaly (and belive me its not all).(try to dim or aug every notes that you like and judje .For shure ,their specific rules on that but for now its fine).
---------------------------------------------------------
Use every thing what you can ,whats your ears like ,i didnt tell that Infected dont use a simple chord progression and more than that they use but in more complex.
---------------------------------------------------------
I hope you will enjoy with that ,all best wishes (RonAron303):)

Honestly,
you should't learn it ,and its not a lot(its simple as its can get),
my point in all that ,was, that you realy should't learn it ,just look and try to find what you like (if its exist there),
and more than that .After you(FREGLE) will finish learn all(simpe theory and harmony) ,you will find ,that you will have only instruction of all picture and not that knowlege that you think you will get out of that.
But with the instruction .....,lets say you get some thing(some solid knowlege about what is going on in da picture) and then you will supose too do a MORE HARD JOB ,again,a MORE HARD JOB ,which?
The job which will seat your ass on da cher and will get you boring all da time :ITS ANALYZE AND MORE THAN THAT ,COMPOSE AND FIND SOME FORMULAS WHICH YOU REALY LIKE(OR NEED IN YOUR COMPOSITIONS)-so enjoy and dont loose your time for nothing and remember there are a Composers in history(for example ,like M.Mussorgsky )and they have never finished schools or konservatoriums or universities .
So what did they do ?-They just seat their asses on da chers and geted into the world ,which name is a INSIDE WORLD:)(its your imagination, your likes and other specifics),So dont be afraid to use all of the material and ask you before you use it -that -IF I NEED THAT?
I wish you all the wishes(Ronaron303)
