Has there been a topic like this? couldent find one so here goes: Wich hardware synth do you think is the most beautiful/nicest one? What it sounds like is not important, only the looks. My favorit, and it was hard to decide for only one, is Moog Little Phatty

I find it amazing that so many think a newer piece of plastic is "the most beautiful synth around".

What about craftmanship? Hours spent on the synth and so on..

How can an arturia jp8 be better looking then a real jp8?

Or something like a xtk be more attractive then a sci p5 or perhaps a mini in looks.

Throw some water on me, I'm on a bad trip here.

yggster: I guess taste is individual right? New peice of plastic or old box with holes and wires, ill choose new plastic as you say. Craftmanship and hours of work isnt counting im tallking about what looks good. I personally dont like the looks of the old modular systems, wouldent care to have one. If i did i would sell it just to get money for my phatty and some other stuff. Think its so ugly and clumsy. Just my opinion:)

Only one though, i would want i my studio, if i had the room was the one upavas posted. beauty:)

Cheers

Yes taste is very individual, sure.

I was not pointing out modulars in the vids, more the general beauty of the old beasts.

I think this has a lot to do with age too. The young people seem to like the new style look of synths (plastic, colors, semi decent quality, a massproduced look) perhaps since that is whats available (and cheap).

To sell a modular for a little phatty would be beyond my capabilities to understand. Have you ever heard a modular (no! not a vst one!)?

LP looks nice btw agreed on that. Voyager too. There are some new good looking ones out there ofc. The DSI range is another.

Of my 13 synths, the ugliest is the microwave XT and the ensonic fizmo but they do sound lovely

Best looking is my mini and arp odyssey mk2.
Try make this with your vst oddy guys!

^^man i love syntezatory's videos!!
MY fav is is dx7 vid....he makes really cool music aswell...

And yggster...you have a model d mini?? That thing is such a beast...I just got a minimoog old school as my first synth and the thing is pure beauty...looks and soundwise hehe...also the fact that i will never have to update any "software" or "operating system" ever makes me realy happy

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/closeup/VoyagerOS--Main

LAter on id love to invest in a vintage though... an ARP 2600 or EMS synthi
then maybe a nice polysynth...a jupiter 8 or Oberheim 4 voice.....

man so much good shit out there!! Gotta make some pop hits...quick...hehe

yggster - ok, thought you only ment modular synths. Them i cant stand the looks of. Lots of the old analog synths i like, like moog prodigy, very nice. And remember i ment wich was the most beautiful or nicest. If you could choose only one. Sound is not of any matter and there i think the LP wins imo.
And age, i dont think it matters, im 30, i wouldnt consider myself young, well not that young.hehe

I would sell my old modular if it paid of, yes i would. More money for more gear analog or digital whatever sounded good to me.

oh yeah......i like the looks of the xt, hehe
