exactly!

see which sequencer fits your needs in every issue better and rewire it!

for myself a good combo is cubase+fl studio.
other people work with cubase+reason or live.

its up to you!

I'm the modular type of guy... I'm using sx3 as my mainhost and energyxt as a subhost.

energy xt allows me to wire things in a modular fashion.

good for probability drumming or neato effectchains, preset morphing/merging, general arpeggio machine... build whatever you like.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

yes, i use fruity and cubase. But the moment fruity has all the features i need and the moment it's usable to do a mixdown in an intuitive way and the moment it can decently command my hardware i won't use cubase anymore... I'm much more creative in fruity...

I use two sequencers only to get the benefit from my dualcore Athlon, because Live doesn't support dualcores yet.

Do you use one instance of energyxt with everything else in it? Or as many as needed....

depends. I build my own prefs with xt. so with changing midi channels I can select the different vst loaded in xt. but almost the same amount of time I simply open another instance of xt instead loading a vst into sx's F11 menu.

I like turning off xt with one button and every vst/fx in it is bypassed. with sx I'd have to bypass every plugin itself.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

I never really thought of using rewire that much until I read this post, because I find some of the oversights in cubase to be annoying.

Just curious how complicated things tend to get when rewiring thru cubase with other hosts? In particular, I'm thinking of using FL studio, since I like the clean design and easy of the FL interface, but have also found XT to carry some very inventive features.

Are you basically using FL studio/XT for composing, then bouncing the files to audio ,& import into cubase for the mixing? Or do you end up using FL studio thru the entire process for the most part? I also wonder how this effects trying to save your entire project, do you now have to save your different parts thru each host?

The primary reasons I am intersted pertain to the following:
1) Freeze is cumbersome & slow in cubase
2) Bouncing tracks to audio is absolutely painful in cubase, especially if I'm just trying to save CPU, and know that I'm probably going to come back & touch up the Midi/VST again anyways
3) I find placing & editing midi info in cubase a little slow sometimes, although I admit I haven't really touched the step sequencer....           Keep The Faith,

Currently working on a project with 2 PCs both running SX3 sync'd via System Link.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

dharma lab, for your bouncing pains, try silverspike tapeit 2. It saves me alot of headackes.

I can't say much about Fruity because I don't use it. Everything you create with xt gets however stored in the project file of the main host. My xt subhost variant basically replaces the mechanism of sx's vst loader and mixer.

I still write everything in cubase. There are ways to trigger sequences you created in xt, but I haven't tried that so far. What I'm using it so far is for creating my routing for vsti's, midiplugins and vst-fx. wiring those things to one or several outputs allows me dry/wet balance of the signals in my cubase mixer.

On the other hand you're completely right. it gets complicated. I tried to answer your question about what I exactly do but erased the whole part. I just completely changed my idea of using it the way I did before.

I guess you could have a look in kvrforums /energy xt. these guys are pretty inventive and you can get your own idea about it.
