Hello,
While doing a search for information on some artists on Google I found this site -
http://www.psyone.ru <-- seems like their selling MP3 cd's of all the latest music they've gotten off the P2P networks (some of the tracks even claim to be unreleased).
I've read a post before about some russian organizations doing this, getting shut down and then starting up all over again.
They have quite a large collection of music - even if they do keep popping up, you can't just sit back and let it happen.
Importnat Whois information for this site -
domain: PSYONE.RU
type: CORPORATE
descr: MP3 Music shop - PsyOne.Ru
nserver: ns1.nthost.ru.
nserver: ns2.nthost.ru.
person: Svetlana V Ryazanova
phone: +7 901 5350532
e-mail: stoc@ru.ru
registrar: RUCENTER-REG-RIPN
created: 2004.03.19
paid-till: 2006.03.19
Hopefully one of you knows how to deal with this problem - if not, someone might want to give Svetlana a call.

man these guys are weak, they actually still have the tag from the downloaded version with the album/artist name (AOEL, Gem, psycz)
We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home. |

Thing is that it's legal to sell downloads like this in Russia.
For those of you that have not been following the events surrounding allofmp3 the RIAA tried to sue them, but since they do not yet have a law regarding royalties for downloads the court case was dismissed.
If the RIAA can't stop them I doubt we can.
And since distribution of music to russia is pretty much non-existant and the prices for imported CD's would be very high for the average russian I can understand that it's popping up many sites like this.
Labels have to focus on sorting out distribution of CD's or downloads at reasonable prices to countries like Russia if they want to sell copies there.
So I agree that one should not just sit back and let it happen, but chasing these sites or promoting them by posting links as soon as you find one is not going to change anything.

One of the best copyright protection is vinyl-printing. It's possible to rip it, but less of this "ripper" has this possibility. Whole ripping-stuff costs more than just broadband connection to the inet and need more time to ripping. I don't care that music-killaz have enough time to do the same with vinyl like with cd's..

Not really - go do a search on some popular p2p network for vinyl releases. I guarantee that you will still find them. p2p sharing is still a problem for styles of music that depend on more vinyl-based markets for sales.

All it takes is for one person to rip it and put it online. There are vinyl ripping groups just like there are CD ripping groups. Keeping tracks from getting online is a lost cause, IMO. This doesn't mean it has to be the end of the music industry - just a re-thinking of how they cope with it (see saikosounds thread for example).

This has been talked about to shreds really ... but it's funny to think back a few years, when VHS and audio cassetes came... people (the industry) said the same back then.
