yes yes Gunter...The Legendary Pink Dots...so many past memories...I personally suggest the album Any Day Now...

I agree...aggressive chill is not really a perfect combination...also trance shouldn't be aggressive, even if dark but we all know what is going on nowadays..

...but I guess Djones meant music with more raw/dirty sounds...more skratchy or dark...more energetic than just a relaxing bath in too many bubbles...
the dark side is inside us all...we all must face it to become real (just watched the film Blueberry yesterday night)....and music is in my opinion the best way to take it out....instead of costantly deny it.

you should look into other musical scenes...expecially the so called glitchy electronica like Autechre or the freesyle breaks....check Future Funk Squad.

sutekh: "born again" is my favourite album at the moment....maybe fits you.

and some old goldies can be found in the production of

renegade soundwave, african headcharge, meat beat manifesto, scorn, two lone swordsman......

...make sense ?

^^^this guy produced one of my favorite agressive sounding downtempo tracks -- "Ulezak" Thanks Mauxuam

Anyway, we should stop calling this music "chillout" unless its chill. just say "downtempo"

...first of all tnx dear vector_0...

then about following...
i mean...let's try to not make confusion between dark, energetic (or as i like to call it, energizing) twisted music and aggressive music...when i did Ulezak i had no aggressive intention of whatsoever...and i personally think is not an aggressive tune...even if there are many mountain demons swinging in it.

i think aggression is never a good attitude...it's most of the time reflection of ignorance, hate for life and blind arrogance....but as much as gentless is somehow part of us.
skazi is aggressive, grapes of wrath is pure moving energy...pantera are violent and nine inch nails are twisted...
to me off course...i am sure that for my grandmama it would all sound like hell coming out of the speakers.

but i totally agree...never considered my music chill and that name is very small for this scene.

...continue to make sense ?

Disc 3: http://www.discogs.com/release/36265 yeah, i know i know, this isn't ontopic, but the mood of many of the tracks are downbeat-chillout with a dark edge. Like the last track by Alien Mutation.

Yes, that's more what I mean, those sharp psychedelic synth sounds, and less of those clean guitar licks and stuff.
A good example would be Sensient's new album Antifluoro, but with slower beats, or break beats.

if you would like to listen to some dark chill thing, try first with Zik's two tracks called deep down hit and the tortoise house..those are two tracks only but those what i call to dark chill...definitely rocksss......continue with Dark Listening by Andre Walter...trippy dark slow thing from a techno label...and finish with Schlabbaduerst Records sixth compilation
this will be a nice journey, im absolutely sure..!:)

Peace Therapy 2 released early 2006 ..psychedelic downbeat fullon. ..and a dam fine release... does have melodies...also theres a recent album by Psyknights which is kinda gothic with a breakbeat/psy edge (and reminds me in places of infected mushroom).

and how about Sensient:Antiflouro..its a 'trance' release but it doent sound like one..i can listen to it softly and it still does my head in.

nice topic

Well I wouldn't say it is aggressive, but MZ 412 - Infernal Affairs is dark as hell. A nice theme from the Pi movie in there and alot of dark atmospheres and static noise stuff. Recommended for sure.

With more sharp edgy Psychedelic sounds.
Most of the chill stuff sounds just a little too clean to me.

Thanks for you replies!

Maybe "Bass Instinct" on the GAudi:Testa album Contivvm is what you are after?
