Does anyone use techniques such as visualization to help with defining the mood of a track. I find that if i think of a scene in a film or something like that it helps me come up with parts that belong in the track more and give the track more focus. Anyone else find this to be the case?

I think of my music as the soundtrack for my life

Just looking alot forward to when I can manifest these divinie vibrations faster, so I can actually play and create a track in realtime to my life... How awsome isnt it to put some nice epic strings in the air when kissing your girlfriend, or some fast running music when running after the bus.... endless possibillities .)

Also, healing shaman on the dancefloor creating vibrations realtime for each and one partygoer, specifically ordered by each owns unconscious

Mood of music is implied by similarity of said piece to mood of human voice and mood of motion of human body. Scales also play a role.

Visualizing those elements is actually a conscious way of choosing and implementing parts towards a mood by some artists. Good to hear that some people think about what effect their music is supposed to have.

Just recently I've started thinking about a theme before I open my sequencer. There was a time where I'd just do the step by step make kick then bass then percussion. Then I realised that this is not actually a starting point. By starting with these features you are merely stating the obvious. These things are always going to be in a trance tune at some point, if not all the way.

So I'll think of my theme, for example recently I attempted a sex track. I got a few samples of sultry female voices discussing sex issues for an intro, then I got some orgasm samples, then I spent ages trying to make synths sound like they were fucking eachother... harder than it sounds, believe. After that I came to the melody. Sadly this is where I came to a halt as I don't own a saxaphone and I found out my wah pedal is broken and gives off this annoying hissing sound.

Anyway, yes spot on this is the way to go. It's much easier to be inspired in this manner aswell because not only is it a starting point of focus, but it's also a map for potentially all the elements of a tune.

Less random noises, more beautifully crafted musical sound worlds.

I guess it's very personal, but for me trying to preconceive the mood of a track doesn't work well at all.
For me the creative process is about channelling and I try to step back and not control the process to much and just let it happen instead.

Still its nice to find a mood for the track to start things off rather than laying down foundations like kick and bass.
Usually I do that by opening up my scope modular and try to get some interesting sounds out of that.
When I like something I stick with that and that will set the mood somewhat for the rest of the track.
So I try not to think "this sounds very nice but is not the mood I intended" because I feel that that would stifle my creativity rather than enhance it.

less randomness is definitely the way forwards.

I work to poetry, taking a line at a time and making the sounds, or pictures, plotting a route through the picture, as my eye follows it.           .

It probably has herpes synthesis. Has it been messing around with other instruments recently? You have to keep a tight watch on those Wah pedals!

I always have a mood in mind for a track before I start. It doesn't always end up in the right direction but more often than not it does.

I wouldn't know where to start without having some kind of a plan. The intended mood will determine the bass line progression and notes, the type of sounds I use, any samples I try to find to add etc.

I usually start with an idea that has a certain mood to it. So I have a certain mood in mind when I start composing the bassline and layer different textures . Then usually something that is not my ideas takes over and the music simply flows out. A lot of time I find a lot going on in my track, and at the same time a deep silence within them at the same time. It seems to prevail a lot of the time. It's kinda weird. But whenever it is there I feel a deep satisfaction with the music that has come out.

Yeah, my delay pedal told me that it hooked up with a rusty jack. Mind you, it always says that... over and over.
