okay, here goes another "what's the best monitor"-topic. I know what you're thinking about me now:

1) Use the searchfeature idiot!
2) Go to a retailstore and listen and find out by yourself!

Well, I already spent the W-H-O-L-E day looking through old posts so don't pick on me on this one AND, I will go to a store too. BUT, since you people have a lot of knowledge about this and since you love the same music as I do, I'm interested in your opinions too before I enter the store.

So, here's my list of monitors that I got interested in:

* behringer truth 2031
* Alesis M1 MK2
* Yamaha MSP5
* M-Audio studiophile BX8
* fostex pm1
* Event tr8
* Genelec 1029 APM

Or maybe you have any other superduper suggestion? Well, in that case it may not cost more than 650Euros.

Please, don't suggest me to buy a Mackie (for example hr624 / hr824) or Dynaudio because they're exceeding my budget. I can't afford them and I don't want to spend that much money neither since I'm a beginner when it comes to musicproduction. I would prefer to upgrade my hardware into something better in the future when/if I feel that the ones I have in that moment just isn't enough for me anymore.

Thanks for taking your time!

(damn, why do I always end up writing so much??? )

Enter the store with your best (produced) cd's, and spend as long as you like comparing them !!!

@psyx

well, since I'm a noob when it comes to all this, I don't really have the supershaped ears for a test like this. Sure I can hear the difference between good and crappy monitors. But when the battle is between monitors that are as good as those ones, I don't really know how I can judge them just by listening. Total noob yeah, but you've all been there That's why I would prefer to hear your opinions and experiences before I go to the store.

All the above mentioned monitors, are loved by one /hated by the other !!!
I've listened to all of these monitors, and drove home with the BX8's...others will say it's shite, but I like them...so...
Buying monitors is pretty personal...

Good luck with your quest !

hmm,i personally dont like any of the monitors you mentioned,but here is my thought:
Get a very good headphones,and some monitors that would resemble the avarage Joe's stereo system (i.e. NS10 Yamaha).

In the list ,I would exclude the Fostex,Behringer and Event.
My 2 pence

well i kinda disagree on the "use ur ears thing" (not absolutely though) cause monitors can sound pretty good, but their job is not that, but to really have a flat response. On judging by ears, u might like ones which have a bigger bass sound.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

Why do all the monitors/bass/headphones/fl vs cubase/etc.. threads end up in a déjà-vu-feeling?

We have a 10 page long monitors thread somewhere (link in faq). If you still have question after reading it, post in that thread.
