hello.

i did some searches but i thought it still would be better to start a new topic for this...

the thing is that i was intending to buy monitors in very near future (in 1-2weeks) but now i have spent my money (stupid me) and it can happen that i don't have the money to buy monitors (i was intending to buy also midi keyboard and soundcard at the same time and the money isn't enuff for all those).

so i started thinking that "hey, maybe it doesn't matter because i can buy headphones"

yeah... i was thinking that if my money isn't enuff for monitors and my room acoustic isn't the best.. so what if i'd go for quality studio headphones instead? like sennheiser for instance...

would i get good results in music production with headphones... mixing results?
are headphones good for that? good for music making?
are studio headphones comparable with monitors? and comparable to the results you can get with headphones?

of course i would choose open/semi-open headphones and i'd would pretty surely choose sennheiser hd-600...

what do you say? i really need opinions, help and suggestions on this very serious thing (for me) because i really want to go further in my music "carreer" and i want better quality to my music.

cheers and thanks in advance..

IMO, Headphones are not a substitution for Monitors and they're more to complete each other,

if you asking for my opinion- save the money again (and this time don't waste it ) then buy a good monitors- after it when you have some more money buy headphones too,

if you are taking music making seriously invest in a good studio monitors-

peace,

phutekk I buy only things that I KNOW WHY I NEED THEM .

|The main idea behind speaker is to represent sound in space while headphones with all respect to great brands you mentioned can't be real "sounded" in space while monitors do it great , this thing is very needed coz mostly music been played on speakers than headphones. |

Space "phenomena" will decrease your hearing abillities to accustics and volume.

...... so probably you can't mix well on headphones

Headphones used in studio for tuning , panning and tiny changes.

...... so probably you need both to get better results

P.S. think alot about what Input said aka "taking things seriously" . Ask youself if you need to waste 5000$(avarage psy home studio) on things you won't need in future and won't sell in prise you bought .

I have both, and I must say I can't really mix on the headphones. Only on the monitors.

hmm., phutek.,

you realy should save up again.,

monitors are important as a reference.,

headphones are good for the neighbours

they do help to hear *certain* aspects of the sound but they will never give you an honest picture of the music.,

there are *some* headphone systems that can reproduce how sound moves through air but such systems are more expensive than a pair of good monitors.,

greets.,
aka.,

ps. open or closed headphones doesnt matter ., that is just a mechanical thing and has to do with headphone design,., but it won't make the headphones more like a speaker.,

I also don't have monitors and use only headphones (AKG K240 studio, semi open) and I must say: it went great and improved my music a lot! until... last weekend when I let a dj play one of my songs on a party. The bass sound was WAY too loud although it seemed ok through my akg. After that party I checked the song on monitors and heared instantly all the faults and bad eq's. So, allthough me and my neighbours love my headphones, I would still recommend monitors, and I don't even own monitors myself...

yeah monitors are best, because the sound is not the same if you make a track with headphones, and like bandarlog says, it can be crap when you play it to a party.           www.myspace.com/psypox

Step by step you'll get everything, good luck !
If possible, get a digital Roland, that's pretty good and a sub woofer =) Then, the isolation will be necessary only in the vectorial attack waves front directly from your speakers, hope.

I wouldn't mind having an average psy home studio...

Its all about what u r used 2 or will get used 2(if u have no experience).

In general, u can create music in both way but if u ask me, in the long run u better buy yourself nice pair of monitores.
