if room acustics what would one then need to do?
invest on some traps before buy monitors?

Acoustics is just as important as having good monitors, if either of these 2 fail the other one falls.
Sometimes you can't really do much more than you've already done with room treatments which means you'll just have to learn how the room works and adjust your mixing accordingly. I'm very intuitive and hardly ever go with prefixed adjustments in the mix, 99% of the times I go by ears and personal liking.

+1 also the place you put your monitors and your listening position can make a very big difference .
imo you have to find the place where the low end translate the best or sound the more flat and then treat the room according to that position so maybe buying the monitors first could be a good idea ,or buy both at same time if you can .
if you put absorbers on the wall without having the monitors you may have to chnage their place later except for the basstraps in the corners (it can be lot of work depending of how you fix them) |
