Hi,

I want to buy monitors to produce with a decent sound. But i don't know anything on audio hardware, cables, audio cards etc. What do i need exactly to buy with the monitors to make them work ?

Thanks in advance.

That depends, what type of monitors you buy. If you will mix "in da box" or have an external mixer and what type of soundcard you have and what type of inputs/outputs these have.

The best thing to do is talk to the shop you are buying from and let them compile a package for you where everything is fixed. Otherwise let us know here what type of equipment you are planning to buy and maybe we can help you decide what is needed.

cheers

Thank you for your answer. I went to a shop in my city and they explained me a bit about it. I bought M-audio BX5a, are they good ?           http://www.myspace.com/psyrit

Shit. I'm a noob in music production and i can hear myself that there is no bass. It's obvious on dark psy tracks.
I'll try to bring them back to the shop tomorrow and take my money back.           http://www.myspace.com/psyrit

A. Why do you buy first, and then ask? First ask, then buy.

B. No bass? In my opinion it's the acoustics, not the monitor.

I trusted the guy in the shop. I could not believe having such a problem with monitors of this price. The bass is shitty you don't hear the dark psy basses rolling. I think there is definitely no low bass.           http://www.myspace.com/psyrit

I have it in the ass i can't bring them back. The guy told me it was not a problem of bass just a problem of size. According to him for this size i can't have better basses. He also said that i have the feeling that there is no bass because of the flat sound.           http://www.myspace.com/psyrit

if you cant return it invest in an active subwoofer for the bass.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Again - it's acoustics.
Number one bass killer in home studios. Not the monitor and not the size.

m-audio bx5 are ok for a beginner monitor.. the lack of bass is due to the size of the monitor and the room acoustics.

but all in all even if i dont like m-audio monitors i cant say that they are not ok for beginners or capable of making good mixes on them!

agreed ... acoustics are number 1 priority but many cant do much about it cos of room or other constraints.

But if your willing to add some bass traps etc. it should help ... look here

That is probably just boomy bass and not accurate at all. So psytrance bass lines will sound totally different good on proper monitors.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Then don't whine about the monitors sounding bad.
