I have a pair of Samson Resolv665a's that are treating me really well. There's just a bit of hiss when the volume is turned up. Is this normal or is it a problem that can be solved? Admittedly, I'm using an RCA connection to my soundcard...Would balanced XLRs get rid of the hiss?

The hiss when turning up the volume can be either the internal noise of the speaker's amplifiers and/or the noise generated by the card itself.

How much(if any) hiss you have with your monitors just turned on in full gain and nothing connected except the power supply? If there's no hiss in this case, then it's the soundcard-RCA combo and XLRs would help i think, depending always on the soundcard's quality-noise level output.

its usual to have very very low hiss on amplified speakers
on the dynaudio you can hear it only from 1 cm , the fan of the computer is louder x10... so its not bothers me and i didnt even notice until a thread came up..           www.sattelbattle.com

i had the samsons till a month ago, and used them with balanced jacks (1/4) and had no hiss at all - unless i turned it up to ABSURD, listener-killer levels.

rca cables tend to be noisy unless they have a real nice build-up. but also check out for other noise sources on your rig, like power cables, crt monitors, etc.

and some advice: the samson has a hi-end tail thats hard to be tammed. keep that in mind.

regards!
