hi

i've just read at genelec.com that monitors should be at a minimum of 5cms to 1m from walls.

dependending on the distance from wall there will be some phace cancelation... (there's a chart there explaining it all)

now... if the back of the monitors is not parallel to the wall?

will it matter?

thanks,

joao

everything matters when it comes to acoustics

find a good book on the subject or read some online guides..

here is one:

part 4 covers some of your questions, but i would spend time to read the whole article for best understanding...

Nearfield monitors should be facing your ears, ie. angled in towards the listening point. This means that (unless you have a very strangely shaped room) they will never be parallel to the walls anyway.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

it takes a triangle room for them to be parallel!

That's was my question: "if the back of the monitors is not parallel to the wall?"

not parallel, because they're angled...

yes, but far less than if they were parallel. it depends if they are cornered, either against the wall or against a piece of furniture - if they are, you will have reflections all over the place and that's a problem. and of course, the problem is less pronounced if the back of the speakers is completely sealed (no rear bassreflex).           http://myspace.com/voxproject
