well... you will need the cables too if you count it as a device.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

If the monitor is active you only need the cables, so you connect the audio card directly to the monitors
(PC->audio card->monitors)

If it is passive you will need an Amp
(PC->audio card->Amp->monitors)

Eventually you'll see that having an externa. mixer after the audio card will be helpfull.

Only on live instruments you need a DI box to reduce noise (or a mic in front of the speaker).

You'll be happy. I have a pair of KRKs as well and I love them to death. They have been my favorite monitors for many years now.

As someone said, eventually you may want to consider adding a small analog mixer between your soundcard and the speakers. I don't know if you have any hardware or not, if so it's nice to make music sometimes without the computer sighing in the background.

But also (as long as you're careful with the feedback!!!) you often get some nice surprises to run your sound through the mixer and use the analog EQ. Spirit mixers are cheap and have a good sound.

In general, I think English mixers sound better. American, British and Japanese mixers have different EQ turnovers partly because of the different language patterns and accents in different countries. Americans tend to turn over at 80 Hz and 15 KHz, Japanese at 100Hz and 10Khz, UK at 60 Hz and 12KHz.

A mic in front of the speakers? Care to explain why that would reduce noise?           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk
