Hi there, I'm looking for some advice in getting proper monitor stands..I got Quik Lok BS300 with my Adam A7's from Thomann, and they suck. They are not sturdy at all and I don't want to risk my precious A7's.

Got any recommendations for proper ones?

I have these and love them. They look great, are totally solid, and have cable management so they look neat.

I use the same and yeah they're not very sturdy. I guess they have a good use though when used with small lightweight monitors, otherwise they tend swing a little. Bad thing they can't be filled with sand too (or not?) but they are what they are for their price, you can't be asking for much at that price range.

i have wooden boxes from ikea for 20 euro/pcs, you'll need two for each speaker and you'll need to put some old clothes or stuff in them, but then they are perfect (for me at least)

Hey they stole my triangle base design!
Looking good Tomos.

I've built my own stands to fit my own specifications. Please be aware that it's doable.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I had previously made my own stands (and I used to build speakers too) but I've never worked in metal.

The Ultimate stands look so cool, very happy. I filled them with sand too so they're SOLID.

Adjustable height is a tricky challenge.
A solid stand should better have precalculated height. Once this is done, you fill the hollow stand with sand.

Those which Tomos presented were pretty nice stands btw

I don't really see any point in wasting money on stands. I use some crappy speakers that I found a while ago which sit on a soft book each and on top of them i put very soft rubber padding that sits on a layer of styrofoam. Anyone care to share the advantage of speaker stands? I really see no point other then the look. I rarely have women over so the look dont bother me.

avduka,
it's nice that you're thinking about how to entertain your women... Yea, stands probably won't be that thing though It can look good, but that's not their purpose.

While you have your speakers stand on your table please read knightfly's post, which I wouldn't want to copy/paste here:

I'm sure this will answer your question no doubt.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Trip, this is a little offtopic but you probably can help me.

I've put concrete blocks on top of my desk & then auralex mopads & finally the monitors on top of the mopads.

I read somewhere that mopads can actually make your monitors sound worse if the monitors are not heavy enough to compress them sufficiently.

My monitors are around 16kg each so do you think putting a 5kg metal plate (like the one's used in bodybuilding) on top of each monitor will help the sound improve?

Also, is there any advantage to building stands rather than the way i have my monitors setup currently? Thanks!          http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
