I've always been confused about this. Is there any rules that you guys follow?

Mine are about 1.5m away and 45 degree angles. I noticed that if I have them closer, the bass sound doesn't get time to form properly. In fact, the further away I am, the more full and defined the bass sounds.

Any thoughts?

I wish I wouldn't have seen this thread

I thought I had thing setup right, then I moved back a bit.

Sigh.

Geez, manual for the Yamaha HS80m's recommends 5ft / 1.5 meters from the wall. Standard I've seen elsewhere is just a foot or two.

I'd be lucky to get 2-3.5ft if that away

yeah, manuals for monitors (yes, monitors have manuals too, but people who buy them often too busy with setting them asap and start listening) have recommendations about proper monitor placement

just check it

http://www.4shared.com/office/8S-D6Ox9/roomsetup.html

use this to find out the golden nodes of ur room and choose the nodes based on ur needs ( which will be the back and front wall etc etc

this will help a lot in the sound quality and will give u a hand on experience ur room to know where it s needed an absorber, bass trap etc.

monitors should be 38% length of room and should be an equilateral triangle to your ears.

haha nice bro! Yeah I'm gonna do the same when I get home too - my desk is too big so I have to put the speakers in corners of the room. Might have to pull out the saw dunno how the mdf will survive though! And look into getting bass traps..           http://www.soundcloud.com/architektnz
