Hi..i just got my monitors & i was wondering about how to get the best room acoustics since its a really small room..I guess its 15 feet in length & 10 feet in width..

Here's how i've placed them right now, behold my awesome paint skills

http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/4409/studiosetup5qj.jpg

I read in an article that you should place the monitors along the longest wall in the room..My longest wall has wood strips on it so will that make a difference?

Secondly how far do the monitors have to be from the rear wall? Is placing them right next to a side wall a bad idea? (like i've done in my awesome drawing)

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it!           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

i think you should get them away from the wall to avoid deep bass rumbling in the room.

Beside that, youll get the best stereo image if you place them correct. Try and put your monitors in front of you, on your desk - so yo havr the tweeters in your eye-height. Then, if your face is, lets say 50 cm away from the monitors surface, then they should also stand 50cm apart from each other. if you do this, u have a triangle of equal lenghts, wich means: the distance from monitor A to B, is the same as the distance between your face and monitor B (or A). u get it?

Now for the angling, place a mirror over each tweeter on your monitors so that they follow the monitors straight contour. Sit in your mixing position, and have a friend adjust the monitors until you can see your face in both monitors.

You may want to try and play with the triangle distance for best results.

Btw: i dont think its a good idea to place monitors in corners.

s-cube, you really should move the right monitor away from the corner!

- a symmetrical position in the room is best (for correct stereo positioning of your instruments)

- enough space between wall and monitors is necessary too

it should depend on how far youre sitting away from them. most people use a ditance between 60-100cm.

well as far as i know the monitors must be like this:

1. they must create a triangle with your head...
you can see it here:
http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=monitors8bw.jpg

2. the Tweeter must be at the same height as your ear's.

3. the monitors must bee:
50cm' from the wall behind them
70cm' from each wall alongside.

4. you must not put anything on the monitor's.

that's what i can think about...           ================

Ok here's the new placement..they are placed in an equal triangle now as suggested by everyone:

@ S.D6 (Yakir .B.)

50 cm's from the rear wall?! that's like 19 inches! i'll really have to move the table far away from the rear wall then..

P.s. Now the wall behind the speakers has wood panels..I think this should help absorb the sound more right?

1 cm' = 0.3937 inch, so it's like 19.6 inch..
but the placement isn't the only thing you need to worry about, you must have acoustic foam's beyond the monitor's...

I got the auralex pads, and my monitors rest on them, and on speaker stands. The pads dont cost much and minimize the vibration into the floor, also you can set them up so monitors are angled up or down a bit, am quite happy with them.           Cytopia.org
