I know you'r all pissed of monitor-questions and answers geting to no results.
Nonetheless you dropped in again, so as you'r already here, you could easily give me some advise too. Here is my question:
I'm going to buy me a new ......... PAIR of MONITORS (what a lucky guy, hehe)
After a lot of listening and sorting out, two pieces remain and I can't make a final decision (whitch might be a psychopathy of mine). The guy from the store was kind of 'glassy eyes and foaming over mouth' pointing to the new Tannoy Precision 8D. I usualy don't trust an advice driven by madness, but this monitor sounds great in my (less glassy) eyes too. The other piece of choice is the more known Dynaudio BM6A, whitch is great too, that's beyond all question.
Can anybody help? Has anybody else tested the new Tannoy? Found a good summary about it?

Or are they in the next price bracket up ?

Disclaimer: Running an ancient pair of Alesis Monitor One MKI's myself so am probably not the person to take advice about monitors from!

if you are in a small bedroom studio like most of us, i've found that 8 inch woofers can be a little bass heavy. the dynaudio's put off plenty of sound for 6 inch woofers and really give you that midtone clarity which is so important. but if you're in a bigger room, those tannoys do look quite nice.           Ovnimoon Records

2 labyrinth: you'r right man. cause I am in a small room I really do concern about BASSSSS.

I think both of the speakers have the same frequency-low-end at around 45Hz and on both of them bass-reflex-hole is on backside. This makes bass even worse if set up near a wall, doesn't it? The pro for the Tannoy is the posibilty to make a lot of eq'ing so you could adapt it to such a bedroom placement.

The other thing of concern is that midtone clarity. dynaudio's are really clear and flat. But tannoys to me sounded as flat and dry they even competed sahara in level of hostilenes. and that's my problem cause I don't wanna die of thirst in my studio, so maybe tannoys are even to dry... for the pleasure on making music.

You don't believe? go out and taste them....
but carry a lot of water with you = )

Problem with Event ASP8 (or6) is (like Mackies I tended to) there is no shop in Switzerland where to have a listen. no listen no buy!

Daemon,
your comparison is a litlle unfair here. this is the truth beyond your question:

1) Dynaudio are Ferrari and Tannoy are Toyota. You need flat monitors, so nothing will ever be compared to dynaudio or genelec
2) If you talk about mixing or even mastering (in case you re capable to) general dance music (trance for instance)the best option is always to have a bigger low speaker. So I d recomend at least 8", altough 10" to 12" as a real deal. Yes, sometimes you nee to listen your mix really loud to simulate some real club situations (please don t go on court by scaring to death your old neighboors).
But in this case you re talking about a perfect monitor that even as a 6 or 6.5"low speaker you ll give you a really perfect job. I m saving money to go to a Dynaudio bm 15 , which are bigger speakers than the bm6, maybe I even shall buy a passive, cause the actives bm 15 are 2 times and a half the price, so I can save some money and buy an amp.

But in that price range ther s nothing better than the bm6. Anyway if you wanna check it out some options just to be sure try to listen to Mackies 824 which are quite good too.
I ll post this link with an interesting comparison between 10 monitors for you to read and take your conclusions:

Thanks, I know that link, and read it many many times before. If it was 2002 now I would follow his recommondations, but now it's 2006, Toyota developed the LEXUS (whitch I personally would preffer to a ferrari) and Tannoy did a step forward to the Precision Series. And believe me or not time has really passed when only cheap crap was produced in asia.

Did anyone ever had a listen to this speakers? if not DO IT! A popular german keyboard and recording magazin even wrote about them in their rubric 'DreamMachines' where normally brands like Neve, Pulteq etc. are presented. They seem to be really impressed by this machines.

I guess I have to go for another A/B listening and make my decision. I really would like to taste the mackies, but no shop got them in their presentation room anymore.

Review:

http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_tannoy_precision_studio/index.html

Didn't seem too convincing to me..Maybe the Event ASP 8's are a better choice..

quote

"However, this speaker is not an end-all for all production requirements, as I feel it lacks punch in the low end. The harmonic structure of bass instrumentation is represented, but the “in your chest” percussion was lacking. The 8D would be well-served with the addition of a sub, an absolute necessity if producing any style of popular dance music. I found this lack of bottom to be true in three different control rooms".

No triton you re wrong..

a lot people say Dynaudio are the best cause they really are the best (genelec too). But when people say they re have a perfect bass response, they don t mean the bass will sound loud or coloured, but will sound full of details that you never listen to on Tanoys....but if you wanna change the world go ahead....I bet if any experienced producer could choose between a tannoy and a dynaudio(with the reasonble similar especifications), if would a single one choose the tannoy..

If you prefer tannoy and lexus than dyna and ferrari I can t argue; but this ferrari will let you know even the roads temperature, cause it really make you feel the roda(the mix in this case)then you ll feel free to take right road, while the toyota (lexus) is so confortatable that you ll never know how bad is the road you re driving through (your mix)...

By the way..I have used both dyna and tannoy...

It's well worth to compare this two speakers:
my personally honest opinion (I did listen both of them before making a conclusion by just following a hype):
Tannoy Precision is more acurate and flat from say above 200Hz to top. whilst Dynas have an overvalued top.
But below 200Hz Dynas really are more precise and tannoys are a bit weak.

As I was listening to the Tannoy Precision6d (because they don't have 8d in Lenzburg at the moment) I was in hope 8d had a better bass, but mixonline review might be right with the need for a Sub.

Thujon what's your opinion? I'm really wondering if you'r going to buy this speakers. I 'll go for another listening at the end of this week or maybe beginning of the next week. Maybe we can meet there....
Do you have any idea where i could check Mackies here in Switzerland? I really would love to.
cheers!
