Do any of you producers use modulars for your productions? Or know of those that do?
And what are you using them for? Leads, basses, drums, Fx?
I've got the modular lust! ( there said it, now it's out )
Thinking of jumping into the rabbit hole of modular. Why spend 2k on a virus ti when you can get a modular set up! |

thumbs up man thats the way !
lot of the best modern analog stuff is in the modular world .
there is a small thread in the instrument section with link to forums and discussion of modules and the different format, if you want modern sound eurorack is perfect with lot of choice and inovative modules (there is also some vintage cloned module of some classic design but there is some better alternative than this format for vintage sound imo)
in software i can recommend Aalto it s really fun for modular madness and i think it s the only software who really give you the impression of using a modular and making weird modular patch ,very fun to use..sound is great too ,a bit thin but with some analog processing it really shine |

mate thanks for sharing !!! great stuff love it . do you have some info on his modular ? i see a borg filter, it s eurorack or frac format, wonder what format and module he use. that guys like him psytrance is missing..guys with gears and unic sound a bit like in the goa days..geeks,scientists...full analog studio LOL impressed...
that show well the 2 different philosophy , you want to sound like everyone you buy a virus, a modular will lead you more to a unic sound and also music imo it s more for geeks |

Here's my old Doepfer/Analog Systems hybrid, which I do not longer have, but use samples from it all the time.
Modulars are great, but are very expensive.
Best way to start cheap is to get a 6U low cost Doepfer frame, the power/buss kit and get the A-190-1 MIDI to CV module and the A-111-5 Synthesizer Voice module.
So you effectively have a Dark Energy in module format, with MIDI learn and you'll be able to make sounds from it straight away.
After that you can continue buying more modules when and as you see fit.
Peace out.

damn it make me wonder if it s psytrance produced with plugin i can t stand cause i dont like much psy since 2001..but stuff like this love it as much as the old stuff. the production is not amazing but it sound real and not fake.
listening Kaliville would love to see him play live this in the forest , so creative !
make me think to sell most of my software synths cause they just dont have that organic depth thing, there you feel the elctricty in the sound , plugin it s fake like masturbation vs real sex |

was cheking their site Blacet/Wiard Hybrid Frac-Rac Modular System , now i know why i like the sound , love the blacet modules i heard (the vco sound amazing imo)and wiard are great modules .
stil listening and for my taste i think i haven t heard such great psy since maybe paps and co , it make me think to that sound too dunno why..it s as much psychedelic.
i think it s really plugin sound i can t stand, it just don't touch me it s strange , it can be crystal clear production but do nothing to me.. while this touch directly my body
guys listen and get in trance to Redwood Ratcrab tune on their soundcloud, it s orgasmic but so far all tunes are great |

"Antimatter" uses a good amount of sounds from the modular.

Hi all. am really feeling geeky after the hours spent working out what I need for my first modular. Eurorack is the way to go, lots of esoteric modules to experiment with.
Dog of Tears is kinda how I imagined the modular psy direction I wish to take. Pretty cool.
Nectarios why did you get rid of your doepfer system? What kinda samples do you use from it?
Have been looking at the Pittsburgh Modular Foundation for my first steps into Eurorack realm. looks like a nice basic set up ( that filter sounds yummy) to start with |

He has eurorack and frac, also SEM, he makes really nice music, at the moment he works on his debut album. Yes production is not very very clean, but its his own style to work like this and i like this style very much also, it's a mixture from industrial, psy trance and funky rythms
Also check his track on the new Goa Gil compilation, that bassline is insane!
VA - Spiritual Science out now!

I had a big studio in the UK and I wanted to move to Greece. Moving the studio was very expensive, too expensive for me at the time. So I sold everything.
I use anything from sampled VCO waveforms for basslines to sweeps and mad FM.
Before I sold it I spend days recording long FM drones, sequences, sampling raw waveforms note for note, kicks, zaps, noisy bits, anything I could use later on in tracks.
I have a big sample library from that modular.
Take note though, the cheaper modular companies make good sounding modules, but they are not tremendous. The good stuff is more expensive.
For example the Roland SH-101 I had at the time sounded better for the simple bread and butter LPF leads and basses.
The Moog VCOs and VCF on the Phatty sound better than the standard or even high end CEM3340 Doepfer VCOs, as well as the A-120 transistor ladder VCF from Doepfer.
But you get the modular capabilities when going down the modular way and some modules are very versatile for the price....for example the A-111 VCO provides for a linear FM input, soft/hard sync...etc.
I had a wide range of modules and if you ever need to ask any questions on what sort of sounds you are after, I'll be happy to answer.
Peace out.
