Hey,
i really would like to see an opportunity to log in a chat and talk to people of this forum directly..
this may solve all the random questions like how to achieve this or that and would be kinda entertaining as well..
so, if anyone likes this idea, please reply to this post as kinda poll and maybe it could happen..
even just to try out the thing and see how it goes would be interesting...

A chat would be a great idea if it doesn't prove to be a threat to the community's discussions. This forum thrives on people asking "how to achieve this or that" questions that initiate discussions which run into pages.
Having a chat might reduce that because people will start getting solutions instantly and the entire community might not be able to see that question and post their views on it.
I'm not against the idea of a chat. I am infact completely for starting an IRC channel. But, I wouldn't like it to threaten the channel of knowledge which flows into this great community.

maybe we could manage to have certain chat times for example...3 hours every second day or something..
mod could save the content and post the interesting facts into useful threads or smth..
i wont use it as a private channel..just a thing where the scene could start to connect more international.. -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.- |

i dont know about the protocol directly to a thread..
i thought about a chat in general, actualy not to talk just about technic but even just for fun..if something gets interesting and is not covered by any of the FAQ threads then one would make a post anyway i guess..

Wave sounds like a good idea. But i think its still being developed. Once its done I think it'll be perfect for the community. Coz we can share sample tracks etc on it without having to upload to sendspace and all that mumbo jumbo...

On the other hand if there are such simple questions which were previously discussed on the forum it might be easier to find the link to a thread then typing an answer into chat window.
I personally like the idea, sometimes there simple-quick questions appear in my head which don't really deserve another
topic, while in chat it might be possible to get the answer quickly.
The main general chat problem I saw was the interface. I think it shoulb fast, simple and realtime. Something like mirc but without the client.

Web based IRC clients are available. That sounds like a good idea. We could probably have a box below the forum. to connect to an IRC channel.

chat idea was previously discussed, I suppose I could say it again that we run a forum - not a chatroom. If someone wants to run a chatroom, that is ofcourse his own right in the free world of the internet.
There is no chatroom system on the forum, and there is no plan on opening a chatroom under the forum supervision.
