I have a motu 828 MK 2 & a portable Soundcraft Folio F1. Each mono channel has an insert jack, which I was hoping to use for multitrack recording (effectively turn the insert jack into a direct out).
So, I have a bunch of trs balanced 1/4" cables with screw off sleeves. I was planning on connecting the tip & ring at one end, closing the loop. This way, the motu could record the incoming signal, and the loop would feed it back to the return on the insert jack.
Does this sound like a feasible option? I can't think of any reason why it would damage the setup in way, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask first....

I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't work, except for increased noise maybe, but I don't have a 828 or the folio.
Maybe it's safer to use a Y 1/4" cable and take the send into the 828 input and the return from the 828 output. I think that the mix app will let you do that. that way you could actully use the 828 a real insert.

I considered that, but
1) It would require me to buy more cables, since i don't have any insert y cables to spare (money is just tight right now....damn expensive hobbies!)
2) Would like to have the option of using output for other things. I've never done realworld testing with my latop recording & playing 1 or 2 VSTi at the same time....it certainly might be too much for it to handle, but I'd like to try it.
But I appreciate the suggestion, as it is a fallback plan if something doesn't work as well as I would like it to.
