Wow. Was that uping the CPU Multiplier or was that upping the bus speed? Or both?

Upping the multiplier was always the quick easy way to do it from my BIOS, but I hear that's harder to do now without snapping some pin on the CPU first. I could do it direct from my BIOS with no fuss, to go from 2500 to 3000.

That was nice and all, but I'd forget I had it overclocked, and bounce a track @ full CPU load and wonder why Cubase was suddenly making my computer reboot after 3 minutes. Whoops.

AEON, if you refferred to me: both, but I tried to use the FSB as much as possible, since it will speed up the whole system instead of only the cpu with the muliplier. And, for notice, i didnt even use a fan on the radiator, and still never had more than 49 degrees on the cpu

Really? Damn! Yeah doing the multiplier cranks the CPU heat at full processing load. I got a better heatsink/fan but it doesn't quite cut it for serious work.

The FSB overclocking thing looked interesting but I didn't read up enough on the ratio that effects the clock on your AGP card etc, i didn't know if I would fuck anything up so I left that alone.

But I am thinking about looking it all up again, Cubase is a horrendous CPU hog and it's starting to bug me.           http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

Cranking up teh FSB can do different things on different chipsets.

It might change the memory speed. If your memory can't handle it you'll get data corruption. BAD.

It might change your PCI bus speed. Almost certainly you should not do this, as some devices clock themselves off the bus.

Overclocking is all about experimenting.

Yeah that's what dissuaded me.

The BIOS had a whole bunch of variable ratios between the PCI, AGP and FSB bus speed, I had no idea what was going on there. Unlike boosting the multilpier which was fairly straightforward.

I know the FSB method clocks up your memory, so you have to buy those little heat disapation clips for your RAM, but also I didn't know if I'd end up unintentionally overclocking my video card or something and fry some equipment I wasn't even watching out for.

Anyone have a good webpage guide or whatever on how to do the FSB overclock method offhand? I'd like to check it out but I just don't have the patience to troll through a bunch of hardcore tech geek forums.
