Any of you guys know anything about these new mobile processors?

I've been planning to buy a laptop computer and I'm stuck in great selection of processors.

I'm going for a budget model, so I've thought about either AMD Sempron 3000+ processor or Intel M350 (or M3something)

Any advices are very welcome!

This laptop will mainly be used in playing live and making music on long train travels.

ey there serotonot
my advise is to try avoiding mobile processors like centrino, sempron, etc. intel mobile is a good choice because its cache and clocks, otherwise the performance for music production will be quite poor.           (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

centrino "dothan" or "sonoma" is the best choise these days. cache memory of 2mb is needed also as much as you can of RAM memory.

Found one I like the most so far:

HP NX9110

PROCESSOR - Intel Pentium M 730
PROCESSOR SPEED - 1600 MHz
FRONT SIDE BUS - 533 MHz
CACHE - 2 MB
CHIPSET - Intel 915GM
RAM - 512 MB
RAM (MAX) - 2 GB
HARD DISC - 5400 rpm / 40 GB
1x PCIMCIA

of course there is also that basic stuff (graphics accel. etc. but dont think it matters here)

That would cost little less than 1000 euros

what do you thing about that?

Yup. Centrino rocks for mobile performance - don't be misled by the relatively low clock speeds as for some applications, performance can be equal to a P4 processor of about twice the speed.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I read somewhere that mobile processor's speed is comparable to P4 if you count it 1,6 times so that 1,6 Mobile is like 2,56 though it seems to kick at least P4 2,6Ghz's ass in the benchmarks.

But i guess i'll buy that HP as soon as i get couple hundred euros more

i use a 2.8 p4 533fsb with 1g ram and im pretty fine for laptop use but iff you wanna brutal power go for desktop exept if yu have some thousands to spend for a laptop
centrino is nice but i prefer normal p4 cpus are much faster i think and centrino is more expensive!!

i bought mine for 1199E and im really pleased but i give 300E for audio card 50E for ram 200E for harddrive and the price rised a lot so it depends of how much you will spend for mobility

i'll tell you why not many ppl want mac: there's almost no cracks or freeware for mac, making it very expencive to use it as musicpc. if you have the money to buy a ibook, g5 + all software i think you must be a son of a swiss banker or something
