i do something similar in my work. i produce under the name justincaseboy and don't really care for sub-genre "rules". samples of my original work are on my myspace and there a demo tracks available for download. (there's a thread about it in the promo media section.  )

A friend of mine who is a magician with all sorts of instruments usually start out playing with his synthesizers in the most cheesy and housy disco eurodance way only to escalate and develope the tunes into hyper cosmos astral project the sounds into woooooaaaww!!! The guy is so talented, to bad the speed is taking his powers ..
anyway, he's good. Real good.
