Recently downloaded and watched the 'Electronica mixing in Logic' tutorial posted under the topic:'mixing-video tutorial' by Ohz! It was by a well-known producer (which his name I cannot recall now) and have to admitt that it's a must see tutorial for every electronic music producer, however the thing that impressed me most was that this guy was mixing with a compressor on his master channel!!! Anybody else using this technique???           www.myspace.com/antlabros

many producers work with a plugins chain on the master,it can help ,for example to glue everything, to add some punch or to avoid these mixing mistakes you discover at mastering stage and have to go back working on your mix...it can help but it s not a must at all (it s easy to ruin your mix too)

I have done it as well, but I only heard to what that certain compressor/limiter with those certain settings, did to my mix.
The mastering suite will not use the same tools with the same settings. Its ok for some rough home mastering in order to play my tunes out before they go through the proper mastering process, or to get an idea of how much my reverbs and delays will come up when the mix gets compressed/limited.
But these days I just try to get the best mix possible with no plug ins in the master channel.

It doesn't "impress" me that he/she has used a compressor across the masterbus

I am not against it. Each to there own. I use them across subgroups just not the master.

I personally would suggest newbies learn how to use compressors properly first before they go and explore masterbus compression.
