the problem is that many people dont know this music...pre-gms era is something unknown...
i face it when i play:
i wish-skazi rmx.....chaos
lsd-hallucinogen......i count people dancing on one hand...
i think this is the problem and not how to mix these tracks...i think!
a little offtopic..
respect!

that argument dosent totaly work for me but i see what you mean if its a very young crowed that you play for..i think you played the tracks at wrong time or for wrong crowd... you got the find the real classics... Hallucinogen - lsd is a real classic, but not everybody like this track. i like it, but maybe your crowd was very young?

i will name a few tracks, some might not be so old some might be pretty old, i can find alot more.. wow its so much good music, lets get nostalgic

also many of these old tracks arnt so boosted so there is still good chance and possibilty to enhance and intensify the sound.. im not a dj so im not talking from a dj´s point of view, but i feel that you got to know your crowd, and if you you find that there are not so many that share your top chart for classical tracks then you know its time to switch music and see how you can move them...a good crowd is of course optimal...

here are a few tracks that i like and would probably try to play one or a few of them if i played at a party were i had a good sense of what they wanted hear... if non of these would have worked there are alot of other tracks.

we will soon get back more and more to where we started its the way of life..

anyway here is the tracks - i no particular order:

1. Chi-A.D. - Exit Eternity
2. Cat On Mushroom - The Fly
3. Deviant species - carrier
4. Emuna - Adon Haslichot
5. Battle of the future Buddhas - Demonoizer
6. E-Erection(Xdream rmx) - Out Here We Are Stoned
7. Hux Flux - Nervoservo
8. KoxBox - Fuel on
9. Krumelur - Inspiration
10. Logic Bomb - Secure The Orbs
11. Lotus Omega - Lighthouse
12. Man With No Name - Possessed
13. Mystica - Ashes To Ashes
14. Pleiadians - Maia
15. Xdream - Frog(morphem remix)
16. Suria - Teleganza )
17. Weirdo Beardo - vs. Skippy
18. tranan - cluedo
19.The Delta - As a child i could walk on the ceiling
20. Tim Schuldt - Orange Acid
22. Colombian Necktie (GOArge mix by Tim Schuldt)
24. Mumbo Jumbo - Weird, Sick And Twisted (Cosmosis Remix)
25. Lube - e.q
26. L.A.B - Trippi´n Trolls
27. Holymen - The Last Universe (Live Remix)

not so old if you think about it, some from 1999 and some from 2003... i think its possible to go lower and find more gems..

Also sometimes i think you have to mix tracks where they have something special, and loop your self around the track in a good way that makes it a little new and interesting! you can do pretty much from what i know..

lets not let two tracks generalize all the old tracks that exits..

fat list u made!
but u should know that i m young too...and i have the common sense to play such a track in the right timing!i wont put it with the full on or even classic newer psy songs! i ve argued alot of times with people about that...
let me tell u...if theres two partys in two different venues in the same day time city...the one skazi-gms-alien project, the other hallucinogen-electric universe-space tribe...or put other names but u know what i mean...
where do u think most people would go?

diskOtek - wow what a question...

i know where i would have gone if i had to choose
but probably most people would go to
skazi-gms-alien project..

i would have gone to hallucinogen-electric universe-space tribe

yeah i know its impossible to please everybody..
and many parties are very oriented... people come for something and they hope to get it. i guess at those parties the djs and artists play the modern dance hits...

if you want a commercial list from me, maybe i can work one out hehe

@zafer: try listening for Compilation made by Goa Gil in 1999 "Forest of saints". Another good way to mix this track is to whait for some brake down and then come in with another song from brake to up.

@disk0tek: i would go on hallucinogen-electric universe too

Dont get me wrong i love old tracks, even madew some myself hehe
Tell you one thing, ive been getting down to trance since 1993 thats right im an ooolllld man hehe Back then it was still semi illegal we used to have massive outdoor part..... blablablablablabla its not as good now blablablbablab noit like the good ol days blalblablalbla
Anyway point is......
Trance was always about changing, exploring new territories, going where no man has gone before etc etc but now its in danger of becoming a cliche.
Always on the dance scene old tracks have come back in style and been mixed in with the new, but always the new should take priority, other wise the music and the scene will stagnate, go backwars, die, become a museum piece.

i dont say to stick to the past, its the worst thing todo.also nowdays come out brilliant tracks mostly from not so known names and makes sense to listen to those most.
but its at least shame for me to write off everything in hte past.
and i wonder if many of nowdays tracks are psy as they are entitled!..
so there should be a balance not in the djset but in the peoples taste..but noone can do that
New Era Scientist-dont bother naking commercial list..i think all of us know!

This track will definetly scorch the dancefloor, Tim Schuldt 1996-2000 sound is for me the real definition of full-on. I mean, listen to Cydonia - Mindhunter (Tim Schuldt Rmx). It's MASSIVE !!!

Btw EYB, uttering a sweeping generalization that pre2000 trance is not good only shows your lack of taste. Stop making a fool of yourself.

You should mix anything that fits the mix. Technicaly, everything is easy to mix, its all 4/4. Tune selection is the most important thing.

Please back to the topic which is:

Fixing the sound differences when mixing older tunes with new tunes, to make the mix sound as natural as possible.

the new things has its roots in the old things.

check this out.. this is what i would love to see and hear!

a whole band playing Djembe, congas, bongos, Darbuka, live drumset, tambourines, shakers(all kinds of percussion)
acoustic guitars, sitar, electric guitars, and synthezisers and Fx for all instruments...

all this stuff doing psychedelic dance music..

this is something i really would like to see and hear...
you could call it a mix of old and new stuff... but it bet i would be banging...

maybe such group exists? but do they make psychedelic dance music with this stuff?

full_on - take the old tracks that you like to play...
analyze them and compare them...
make a set where you make the old music fit with the "new" music...

you can even try and make premasters of the old tracks, so there is less volume differences..also
try some exciters on the old tracks to see if you can make them shine more....

if they have a muddy lowend, try and cut a little on the very low freqs, but maybe the mud is comming from low-middle freq, so experiment....

all this you can do in realtime if you got the effects..
but its not something that i would do on the dancefloor if i didnt have alot of experience...
cause you can easiley do something that sounds bad instead... so best is to get to know the tracks so you know where you can add gloss...

i think you can get better answers at some Dj forum, they know the lingo and i think they are pretty good in knowing what to use and so on... but thats just a guess..

maybe somebody here will tell you how they do..

Well Iguess shpongle have made some headway in that direction. I reckon "laptop" should be on that list of instruments hehe.
Yes I agree mixing electronic sounds with natural ones is a good way to go forward for the scene.
