that's it, start by starting to believe this. |

well i am not a dj, but i like the ones who are brave enough to remind us the classics.
dj mel played sometimes 145 fullonsets and switched to "klein aber doctor" while keeping fullspeed. amazing!
some tracks become a new face mixed with modern standarts. about the beatmatching its not as easy as today-releases because the basslines are always different and the arrangements are not as same-formula as today. i also feel that today 90% of the trax are arranged like a straight dj-dance-tool, while the older releases are more into listening experience and unexpected structures, more experimenting, which makes all trax more different to each other and even harder to smelt together. |

thanks for hint kitnam: i guess best way for a fuul-on mixer to learn mixing old stuff is integrating this songs more and more into his abitual repertorium, to figure out how to do it best way, and that's what i will try tonight!!!!!! |

zafer, I have the same problem: I like and have both new and old stuff and I had a hard time trying to mix new and old tracks.
What I found: new tracks usually sound louder, so you'll need to adjust the volume on your headphone AND on the dance floor.
I suggest you to do a smooth mix (not fast) slowly modifing (adjusting) the volume on the channel of the old track, usually I also add a bit of bass (low frequencies on the mixer). Do it slowly so that people on the dance floor don't notice it, in some cases a one minute mix is recomended.
Another problem is: if the sound is too low on the headphone it can be very difficult to beatmatch, so you need to experiement with the headphone volume and, with training and experience, you will hear that beat a little more clearer.
I suggest you to try combinations at home before trying at parties, but since I know that at parties we always want to play some unexpected track, be aware that problems may happen, and always have a plan B ready.
Good luck!
If anyone wants to share experiences about this tricky issue, please post here!

without putting much aspect to the difficulty of beatmacthing and any other technical aspect i say mix anything you want...
really, if a track is good then play it!
ideas like "old tracks has such a bad quality" and so on and forth is just hmm.. narrowminded...
quality(which seems to be very subjective) is not main factor... at least not for me.
if a old track lacks bass, well boost the bass.. and if a old track has to much bass.. well cut some...and if it lacks volume, gain it.. and vice verse!
also a trick would be to have a long break before playing a track that is not of todays "standards" cause this way people will forgett that it was a ultra maximized track that was played before, and they will appreciate the old track just like any other track...
really were is the problem????? |

the problem is that many people dont know this music...pre-gms era is something unknown...
i face it when i play:
i wish-skazi rmx.....chaos
lsd-hallucinogen......i count people dancing on one hand...
i think this is the problem and not how to mix these tracks...i think!
a little offtopic..
respect!
