does anyone here mix stuff wich is older than 2000?
i have mediocre skills in mixing new stuff but can't get to make an acceptable mix with old songs, i even find difficult to have a good beatmatch
is it just a matter of time for the ears to get used to the different nature of old songs, or there is any hint to make it easier?
i really like the songs that introduced me to goa and some of them still have no rivals, they got such an epic and dramatic power that nowadays is mainly lost.
so help me getting a happy realized hobbit plz
bye

It does require modifications in technique due to the factors that Aeon cited. You can try a 'window' mix if there's a track that you just can't blend evenly no matter how you try.
Another solution is to rip your tracks into sound forge and use the wave hammer's volume maximizer to correct for lower track output levels and in my case the EMU digital audio DSP will enable you to re-record the track with some subtle EQ to overcome the 'flatness' associated with older tracks. It may or may not be worth the trouble.

i think you feel that because older tracks the relevance given to kick and bass was much lower than today trance, or today full on, where the thing you hear the most is kick and baseline. the quality of sound of the tracks itself also has improved a lot.
old track kick and baseline are mixed lower in volume and what you hear the most is those sharp eautifull goa synths makin the melody. |

1:for most people, so old music is practically unreleased,
2:coz it rocked
3:coz it rocks
4:coz it will rock
5:coz i noticed it's the almost only kind of non full on i like, and o think it's good exercise to improve mixing skills on different styles
6: ppl don't care that much if they already heard it or not, they just wanna rock

pre 2000 , are you talking about the "goa trance" or the psy more minimal , cause goa trance was harder to mix with no doubt ,lot of djs were just waiting the end of the tracks where there is no beat... but it was ok cause you can t mix all these anthlogie tracks before the end |

I mixed a two hour set at a club last month with featured nothing newer than 1998 and the floor was completely out of control. This "noone wants to hear old trance" arguement just doesn't hold water. I also note that it is usually DJs who make that claim, not the people on the dance floor. Acutally I also just recently watched a dj spin an hour set using only two cds... Hallucinogen's Twisted and The Lone Deranger and again I heard not a negative comment in the house...

Missed i something? Since when have u to tell people what to say?
@zafar U need to know ur tracks. All the breaks and stuff. Then it is a bit easier to mix older tracks. There is not the 'always working perfect' way to mix pre200 stuff.
