someone on this forum mentioned that the best of psytrance was mixed in mono (it was a 5.1 surround production thread)

i'm curious as to the pros/cons of doing that, and hope one of ya'll have a reason this may be so.

or is it bunk?

i dont think thats so true

you can go in mono all the way , but atleast the effects should be stereo

just remember you lose all the psychedelia of sounds going from left to right.. and their "big" charechter too..
thats almost as dry as produce 1 note songs          www.sattelbattle.com

A good way of getting a clear and well-balanced mix is to do all your levels and EQ of the basic sounds in mono, with one speaker, and then switch to stereo to add panning and stereo FX etc.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

^^ this. With a special emphasis on 'one speaker'.

Another thing to think of is (by and large):

A stereo sound well mixed in mono will sound good in stereo.

A Stereo sound well mixed in stereo may or may not sound good in mono.

If you plan to play out (where you will not know before you play whether the rig is stereo or dual mono or whatever) you would be well advised to consider and experiment with this.
