hellllooo.
i find very hard to get a cool mix of my tracks in ableton.
i already did the nightmare of put warp markers on beat of each track.
some tracks fit ok , but other tracks flangerize and sounds weird when they are on the mix .
another thing is when a track is warped at 126 bpm and i chage the master tempo to 127 the track sounds bad like very compreesed.
WARPING IN ABLETON 8 ITS PAIN IN THE ASS.
I PREFERED WARPING MODE ON ABLETON 7.
ANY HELP ????

I find ableton 8 to be quite easy to work with when warping - however I never had 7 and I hear its difficult to adjust.
I warp most tracks in under a minute by anchoring the 1.1.1 to the first kick drum...move to end of the song see if the grey markers are way off beat or just barely...if just barely, move a grey marker near the end, then pick 3-4 spots in the track to zoom in on to see if the timing is right. 90% of the tracks I warp behave in this manner.
However, if the greys at the end are way way off, you go like 16 bars in from your first yellow warp marker, adjust accordingly...
I did have to watch like ...at least 5 different tutorial videos on it in order to get it right though lol... |

Why warp your own rendered audio in ableton?
When you're in the production stage of a track there is no reason to warp your clips.
In my opinion, you should render a clip to wav after you're sure it's at the bpm you want... if you warp after rendering, you will lose audio quality.
Put your kick drum at -10 to -12 db on the mixer, and mix everything accordingly. This should give you enough ceiling room to mix your tracks well.

A suggestion I have is to perhaps try changing the warp mode from 'beats', to 'complex' or one of the other options in the small drop down menu next beneath the warp button for the audio clip. |

hehe,
i also guess it´s the warp mode, maybe some sample would be nice...
but if djing with live i guess the standart mode is re-pitch. anyways, try around. with complex i guess you will get some metalic effect and beats will result in a timestreched like, not charming sound.
set the global bpm BEFORE putting your tracks into ableton.
btw, why dont you get 7 then or keep working on 7? dont get the hype around 8, got 7 and im very satisfied with it. anyways tried the 14 days license from ableton and the warp engine of 8 IS BETTER imo.... dont get your point.
hope you will fix the problem, if not, i wouldnt mind working on 7. it´s not that 8 is completely different and worth to update imo...
cheers

It was a serious pain in the ass adjusting from the warping of 7 to 8. In 7 it pretty much did it at the touch of a button and then minimal readjusting of the autowarp markers. In 8 those gray markers never seam to fall right on the beat and there seams to be way to many of them that show up. I'm still trying to figure out the difference between how the tones, texture, re-pitch, complex, etc.... modes land the markers. It wasn't this confusing in 7, it was pretty much straight forward and simple. I've even thought about reinstalling 7 just to get that ease-of-use back.
