hey there! people often got mixingquestions, so i decided to start a new thread.
--------------------------------
i learned here:
"quote" cut some mid frequencies from the leads, one frequency for the "click" of the kick (~1500 - 2500 Hz) and another for the low-mid area of the bass (~200-300 Hz). You can boost the same frequencies at your bass and kick, so the leads and kick+bass wouldn't fight for them.
--------------------------------
this method worked well for me, but now im stucked again.
could anyone lend me an ear or two, and tell me if there are some lacks in my mix, or something else to upgrade my mixing knowledge?

i use no compression, except the bassline with the kick as its trigger, maybe compression at leads would help?

here it is (0,5mb):

Nice flow, and crystal clear!

In my opinion sounds great, it's your touch anyway, the mix depends on what the person wants to achieve, what style etc... it's kind of relative, as long as you can listen to the instruments without massive overlapping/masking, distortion, clipping etc... it should be ok shouldn't it?

Compression is something that many people that i know of think it has to be applied in every instrument and "hard", not every instruments need it, if you think the percussion is a bit soft, you can try and insert a good compressor on the whole group to give more punch, if a lead is a bit dead you can try a compressor to bring the quieter parts up making it sound more present.
It's good not to apply unnecessary compression/overcompression on earlier stages so on the master you will have more flexibility on the track!

Anyway, it's worth it to learn more, you can check out for example Internal Mixing tutorial dvd I and II from steinberg!

Hey dude. I like your mix on bassline and percussion but not the leads. When the leads are playing the hats sound distant, once they shut hats sound ok, maybe apply same principles on the quoted advice on the leads lowpassing the lead high end so you leave space on hats. Also, In my opinion the legato is too loud.

Want real help on mixing? Get David Gibson's Art of Mixing DVD it really helped me bigtime.

cheers

ps i like your sounds what r u using?)

hey, and thanks! yeah somehow i heared that there is something wrong, ill check that at my high freqs on the leads.
the legato melody should be the main thing, because it doesn´t fit with the other lead that well, maybe making it less intens with some equalizing...
i got andi-vax mixing secrets + internal mixing cd2 ^^
ill check out your dvd too aciduss!

my secret vst´s are: ppt-tritium, toxic biohazard, vanguard and rapture.
the kick is just a downloaded kick

its me again, i tried around about an hour with EQing, and i think that what disturbs my hihats is the high freq. wind (white noise).

yes it disturbs the hihats, but somehow this wind makes come the song alive, any sugestions? if i cut the high freqs it isnt a wind anymore^^

Sounds fine to me actually. Don't see the 'wind' clashing much with the percs.

Decent mix.

The mix is not bad..
.. but, the volume of the Close Hihats is too high and it cover the rest of the sounds (leads, open hihats etc..).
Try to take down the volume of the CHH's with 2-3 db and than see what you can do with Eq. Try to make some space in the mix.

I would suggest also, to cut a little bit from the Kicks subbass (40 -60 hz) , and add some more subs on the bassline. Because, like it sounds now, if you play it on big sound system, the kick will sounds too strong and the bassline is not fat enough.

I hope it helps,
Good luck !

Well, i got same problems in the past with my monitors... on my monitors the sound was perfect but on big sound system was totally different. So i use 2 different pairs of nearfield monitors and also one big sound system (2*600 w) when i mix my tracks.

Subwoofer might be a solution, but probably not the best...
There are much better solutions....maybe some professional "midfield" monitors like the real big studios use...but they are very very expensive (between 3500 $ - 50.000 $)

If you ask sometimes why the commercial music sounds so clean and phat on big sound system, well, here is your answer:

http://www.proaudiodesign.com/productinfo.php?ItemID=P8991
(the system costs aprox 45.000 $)

http://www.dynaudioacoustics.com/Default.asp?Id=286
(one speaker costs 10.000 $)

http://www.dynaudioacoustics.com/Default.asp?Id=291
(one speaker costs aprox 7000 $ !!!)
