If you have the money go for mackie....though
im pretty happy with my little behringer...
check which has lowest noise floor
and which one suites your needs best....
if you want to use your money for other things in the studio the behringer is not that bad...

oh well: mackie.

how many channels? seriously go for something better than mackie or behringer, they both suck. soundcraft is a little bit more $ but well worth it. i'd really urge allen+heath, but that's even more money... |

I also prefer jolly good ol' british desks.
Soundcraft and Allen & Heath sound warmer than the mackie.
Mackie is more clean....and if you want clean sound i would go for a DSP mixing solution , like UAD-1, pulsar or powercore personally.

mackie products have gone down in the quality of how their manufactured.
I also agree with spin, if u want a clean sound don't even use analog. I'm finding my analog desks unneccessary with mixing internally, making everything sound much much more clean and distinct. of course also sounding much more cold! but with making alien music sometimes this is highly desired!:-) |

mackie definately but check out their onyx line, and if you can check out the pre´s and eq´s on them. the old vlz line doesn´t even come close to this, this goodness has a price though but that depends on how many channels you need. every mixer adds it´s own flavour to the sound, so if you want it clean then better use direct recording (good soundcard with good converters a prerequisite here ofcourse) to the computer however this character can also help to "warm up" the sound or help making your sound more homogenous. i don´t think that because this is highly synthesized music it should sound cold and sterile but sometimes that can work as an advantage yes.
