cum on guys.for sure its not the dynamic range,we all agree at that.
but i still believe u sudnt aplly changes to the mvu in your host, its not the way to prevent clipping or make ur mix sound betta,ur just making ur life worst to get a good rms level.
i also use an analoque desk bcoz when it comes to mastering u cant calculate some things in the digital world -(such as voltage of a signal)or even if u can, most times by vision,u cant be that sure if its the exact amount- which are more important than u can ever imagine..
neway, everybody has its own way,i asked to no the most common way to mix a track, bcoz im a newbi into mixin trance music but not music generally.
as far as i can see not many ppl are really interesting on telling me.its fine pals b u t ,mixing is not only wot we like to hear, its maths too .so read,at least,a simple book to understand some important thinks that u dnt really no.
i dnt mean to be bad but i mot that happy when ppl are telling me things like that.
im not a wizard, thats the reason i asked.
thanks again

Sure. But it really won't affect the quality of your track if you change the master fader (I assume this is what you mean by mvu) to avoid clipping. This is because the mix engine works at 32-bit float resolution. No matter how large or small a 32-bit number is, it still has 24-bit resolution (the other 8 bits are used to scale those 24 to enable the representation of both very very large and very very small numbers). This means that small adjustments of the master fader (in this case less than, oh, 60dB ) have (to all intents and purposes) absolutely no effect on the resolution of the output signal.

There are a few discussions on this topic around on the forum, try using the search to find out more.

Why do you think that changing the master fader is not the way to prevent clipping?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

err dumb question but does the mix level matter? being 0.5 0.0 1.0... it's just a fader change. the engineer can do that with almost every plugin there is (aka Gain).

thats y there are limiters i pressume colin though its always better to use no fx on the hosts' mvu when mixin.
i consider a mix as a box which i have to make it as heavy as possible putting things in there and leave some great space(headroom) for the bomb(mastering) so when ppl open it get surprised..
by changin values on mvu is like making that box lighter.though i have to try it and find out.the reason im not so sure about it is bcoz i use an analog desk (which is the only way as far as iv been tought to really no wots going on into that digi numbers).the reason is that all that million numbers can b false sometimes.
my problem is that im now starting to mix trance, i was mixing other things bfore till i decide to start working wit music i really like and dnt care about budgets and how much money ill get paid.
thats y i ask sometimes yes, stupid questions for you guys, but that doesnt mean that wot we all say can be wrong.
im sure one day somebody will tell the big secret about the mixing technique in trance,at least i hope so,but im really strict on doing things by bearing in mind numbers thast y im so pain in the ass.
things iv done so far in production(rock, classical, jazzy bluezy stuff), are kabooom and worldwide known and i used a strict tecnhique that time too.i like trance coz its a free and spiritual culture but puttin all these psy sounds, killer kicks and massive basslines into to speakers can be frustrating sometimes....

i'm not saying you made a dumb question industed... i'm saying I made a dumb question. and don't be afraid to ask... trance is really tight and ear isn't enough when you don't have basis.
about the big mix secret don't wait for it. try to discover it yourself...
oh and a tip... don't worry too much on the sound quality of a track. make more tracks. i made that mistake (have been working on my track for ages...) and when i try to make a kick+bass from scratch it takes me MORE ages. too bad i love this track too much

send it to me and i ll mix it for u wit guuuuud equipment and i ll send u the projects i have to work with...
the bad thing is that i have to worry, they are not ma tracks.if they were i wudnt..
i dnt care about individual sounds, like is that kick gud enuff or is that hi hat psycy ennuf?neway thats not ma job..
trance is like 1million boxes into 1 box as i told bfore...other kinds of music jst have vocals, bass, drums, quitars, shity stuff man..one time i mastered a project for a film and they had an orchestra playing and all i did was a limiter on 0db to prevent clipping..nothing else, can u imagine that??!!no eq,no comressors,no fx,no nothing...jst a lil bit of hall reverb!!!
and trance is like fjujcjkj me!!!!
