not an expert on this, but I use it to add some weight to the sounds and glue them together

try for yourself, you will hear the difference and either you like it or not           https://soundcloud.com/noordzee-laborant

this is the case when less is more. less gain reduction. i would say 1-2 db, 3 tops. mostly used to reduce dynamic range (to make the mix louder later), take care of peaks, glue mix, add special coloration and bite. i like o use arp2500 (all green) with auto make up on. the glue rocks too, but doesnt auto make up (as an ssl clone).

honestly, i got the main idea of this relatively not so long ago. thing is with such small moves you have to be set up to be able to hear, analyze and decide if the change is for good. i think that's why it is not much of advices online - you just have to hear / feel it

IMO it's worth getting into, that technique is among us for so long, so it should be taken in consideration.

I'm using it, before I slap it the end and seek for just little gluing and reduction, recently started mixing into compressor, wrap your head around this thread, I think you gonna find some food for thoughts

It may or may not work for you, it's seeks time and dedication, like everything, but for sake of topic, it' sure great insights about the whole thing

the Glue Compressor in live9 is great for this, though it is easy to overdo the effect.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

think this also comes down to personal taste, for me i mostly try to avoid mix buss compression to preserve more separation/depth/dynamix, learned this from an old infected interview n after lots of comparing seem to almost always prefer it off depending on the track
